Ok, what is the trick?

Another note on that nut, once you get it loose you'll never be able to keep it tight again unless you use thread locker on it.

EDIT - dang... guess I am late to the party... glad you go it out! But still recommend the Wintergreen oil for screws, etc!

before you break out the C-4 or the 3/4" impact wrench - and/or break the press frame (and YES that would be ME if I were doing this...).. Go to your local pharmacy. Ask the pharmacist for a bottle of Wintergreen oil. It will not be on the shelf - if he has it it will be behind the counter (no CLUE why!). ~$6-7/4 oz bottle cpl years ago. Drip that around the threads numerous times, maybe for a week. Then try it. I had a small gun screw that Kroil wouldn't even touch. Gunsmith told me about the Wintergreen oil. I applied it 3-4 times over a week and removed the screw.

If THAT doesn't work, put press in freezer overnight. Take out, apply torch to outside of press and try loosing then.

Methyl salicylate?

Interesting. Just don't eat it, stuff is a bit toxic.

Mix maybe 8-10% in some Vaseline and it would be a good pain releiving rub. Pretty much like Ben Gay but with a different odor.

Glad to hear it's out.

If I get that problem (and might soon on my RCBS A-2). I would probably try a big six point socket on the short hex first.... If that was a no-go, I'd use Brad's method with a bolt only I'd impinge the bushing with a lock nut on each side tightened tight! Only if that 'slipped' would I weld on it. A welding machine and a loading machine is not a good relationship. It I did weld as a last resort I would make sure my ground was on the bushing itself!

The socket I used cost about $450 bucks from the tool truck. Most people don't have a selection of 3/4" or 1" drive, six-point impact sockets on hand, but taking the press to an automotive or truck shop might be an option for the next guy, just ask them to stick an impact gun on it and "blip" it a couple of times.

They don't????:embarrassed: I don't have a lot of impact sockets either and they are 1" drive.... But have up to 2" in 3/4" drive standard Snap-On some in 6 pt as well as 12 pt. Had them for years.... Even a few big 3/4" drive metric. 30mm and a couple bigger yet. You're right about having to buy them these days!
