Ian, some lessons just must be learned first hand.
Parenthood is both rewarding beyond all belief and frustration to an extreme.
You will learn quickly that some things you thought were important just aren't really a big deal anymore.

Congrats on sticking with it. Sometimes it is a matter of finding the right MD who doesn't believe in giving up

Ian..... Brad has gone right to the heart in the quote above..... He knows; and you will cherish the everyday joy given of being a parent. Having a child is one of life's greatest journeys... I'm happy for you and your bride.

Many many congrats. My wife went thru 3 miscarrages, including
a set of twins before we had Brad's wife. A blessing. Again many
congrats, and may God bless you and yours.

Congratulations from Oregon.
what you've all been through makes our daughters emergency cesarean seem like a walk in the park. She now has a baby girl.

My wife and I have been blessed with a perfect little baby girl. Jacqueline Louise was born on 1 August and is doing great.

The road to parenthood hasn't been easy as some here know, Jacqueline is our sixth child in four years but the first to survive full term. We had looked forward to a normal birth but in the last week before her due date it became apparent that a Cesarean birth was the only option to ensure the safety of baby and her mother, so we scheduled for the day after her official date. However, she decided to try and come ON her due date anyway, so we had to intervene and inconvenience our superb team of obstetricians, pediatricians, nurses, and anesthesiologists the evening before and have ourselves a big birthday party. All went smoothly, we were able to come home in less than 72 hours, baby is in fantastic condition and Wifey is recovering extremely well.

Wonderful, simply wonderful.:):):):)
Congratulations ! !

Thank you, Aya, I guess she's internationally famous now :p

Creosote, I don't think any Cesarean birth could be called a "walk in the park", particularly not the emergency ones. When the surgeons can take their time, and the mother hasn't been in hard labor for hours, it goes a LOT better for all involved.

Congratulations to you and your wife, Ian! We have 5 boys (all grown now) and wife had 3 miscarriages. And has had B vitamin issues. One son is having some issues now as well. I am going to have them check into the issues you had.

It's easy, Kevin: No boyfriends until I'm dead :D

I hope she looks more like her mother than me when she grows up.

Oscar, do some research on methyenetetrahydrofolate reductase. The tests for it are not very expensive (few hundred bucks if that's all that's being tested just to ID it as a cause, a $6,000 Boston Heart Lab test or another which escapes me at the moment and is necessary to effect proper treatment for a positive MTHFR mutation) and can change your life. Our daughter will have some form of the mutation since both of her parents do, so early detection and treatment is a priority for us to minimize autism spectrum risks and a host of other developmental problems associated with reduced ability to break down folate into methyl groups.

Oh Ian, you have much to learn!
Boyfriends are a fact of life. Key is to make sure your daughter knows what is expected of her and that she knows she deserves to have high standards. Heck, I get to meet my daughters current flame in a couple weeks. Not sure I approve of a mechanical engineer?

Somehow it all works out. Follow your heart and do what feels right. Never, ever dumb things down! Make her independant and capable of taking care of herself.
