I've a mental picture of Ian pacing the floor getting an ulcer. Why? Daughter out on first date?

One day at a time, Rick. At this moment I can't even conceive of the number of things that will one day give me ulcers, cold sweats, insomnia, etc. when it comes to my little girl. I have a feeling her mother is going to have it worse than me!

I am, maybe her Uncle Rick can screen potential dates for her. That will scare them off for sure.
Worst of all is the middle school years. Hormones and an alward phase of life. Man I don't miss that period of life.

Me neither. I went through it by myself, parents were splitting up and all kinds of drama going on, even if they had been able to pay much attention to me their "style" dang sure wouldn't have been much help. Most things my wife and I see exactly eye-to-eye on and communication is one of the big ones. Good values, self-esteem, and mental habits are some others. We talk a lot about what we felt could have been better growing up and have our own ideas. I'm no fan of Mike Tyson, but he said a lot when he said "Everybody has a plan until they get hit". Our goal is to persevere with the good basics of parenting no matter how many plans and ideas get thrown out and recalculated. Well, that and enjoy the moment, time is already starting to fly by.

My baby girl just got her hair cut for the first time, at 6 plus years.

I didn't think that one would choke me up, but it was pretty hard on a daddy!

I remember waking whenever I heard a sound on the baby monitor. Common topic at the dinner table was, "how was his poop?" Changing diapers is no problem if they're on breast milk. If not, you learn to change a diaper fast and hold your breath much longer.
Used to enjoy listening over the baby monitor to all the little cooing sounds in the morning, immediately after they wake up.

I built a Chippendale crib for the oldest, they all used it.....still got it,the Gbabies love it.

So,that's the hardware....the soft side is when the twins were infants.EVERY night,we'd put them in the crib....one at each end,all tucked in.By morning every day, they'd be snuggled together.

The part I miss the most is seeing the house 's front doors wide open and the boys, the dog...a cpl stray neighbor kids all running around, mostly clothed..doh;with nothing on their minds except having a blast,in and out of the house they'd go.Wifey and I were callused to the noise.Hardwood floor every where, mostly covered with kid junk. Can still hear that crisp plasticky Lego sound......think haunted house. It's indelibly etched into the structure.

Congratulations!!
As a father of a daughter, I can tell you the best part of your life has just begun!
Make memories with her every day and when she's older, you'll remember all the good times and laugh and the tough times won't matter.
Tickler her and make her laugh every night before going to sleep.

Congratulations !
My oldest daughter had several failures now a mom to 2 . Seems the rest of the clan has to be careful where they hang their trousers .

My Grandmother was quite the sage .
Never name your kids something your not going to call them .
Raising kids is a 20 yr investment and it could take as much as 35 to know if it was a good one or a bad one .
Kids don't know if you're doing right or wrong they never had parents before .
Firm and gentle but always the same hand .

My life experience advice ?

You know how sometimes the dog just starts doing stupid stuff it knows better than to do because the car ride is over due ? Kids will do the same thing . Sometimes after the butt whooping , time out , grounding etc dust has settled you just have to take a few extra minutes send them to the car and go get an ice cream or a Coke or some other completely counter intuitive thing to get the train back on the rails .

Now THAT is getting them started with reloading EARLY, Aya.
:D

As far as dating and young men..... way off in the misty, far distant future, which will seem like about
a year and a half when it happens---

I once brought a young lady home too late, as we entered the kitchen, there was her father
wiping down a double 12 gauge. I about passed out.:eek::eek::eek::eek: He was leaving for turkey
hunting, had to drive a good ways.

Scared me good, though.

So just happen to be cleaning a pump shotgun when they come to pick her up on the
first date.:)

Congratulations !... We always said it was best to have a girl first. That way it was a fare fight as her brothers grew up.
You have some very good years awaiting to arrive at your door.

Keep on dreaming?
Yeah I know she's not mine, but I'm a dad of four boys and one 'inherited' daughter. "Listen to me sweetheart, I know how boys think". "You don't need to be in such a hurry to date." "Listen to Daddy."
Too bad that never works.

Boys aren't unique in their tendency to navigate by Needle Number Three. If they were, our species would have died out a couple million years ago.
