Ranch Dog 30/30 sizing question

Gents, came across a post from Michael aka Ranch Dog...

He mentioned in a marlinowners.com thread... dated in 2011... sizing diameters depending on manufacture: no safety marlins size .311, side safety marlins .310, and win94 and others .309... this is prior to his adjustment of the 165gr with the wide front band.

My 1984 336 has a short throat, rcbs 30-180 fn fit & cycle just fine... rd 311-170 (sc, not tl version) gets a bit of a hiccup and doesn't finish chambering. Thoughts on a .310 sizer?. Trim brass short until the oal works for the short throat? Have a gunsmith throat ream the 336 until it fits the rd?

Thanks!!
Andy

If this is one of those Marlins with a very short, abrupt throat, I would consider reaming it. It would not only solve your chambering issue, but also make accuracy more easy to achieve- I think.

I can direct to a place you can probably talk to him directly .

If this is similar to one I saw today on FB I would relieve the throat a little .
Triming brass to make a bullet fit the chamber while less permanent than barrel relief leads to crud rings , stuck cases on said rings , lead scrappings in the chamber and of course brass segregation and why is this so far out of the case .......says the guy with a mildcat that has a .007 bullet dia difference but used a standard reamer to get there ........ It's ugly maybe I'll tell the story again some day .

Sizing down isn't where I'd go with the MG barrel . I've never loaded for one but as I understand it .0025 over is a good place to start .

Option D). Use the RCBS bullet.
Leaning towards this with an eventually cleanup of the throat... the rcbs bullet works great all around in many 30 cals... thought the rd 311-170 would be the cats meow in my older 30/30

My 1966 Texan model loves it, but it has the stadium throat. My late 80s 336C has no throat and won't even chamber the same ammo. My solution was a bullet very similar to the 311041 sized .310", it works in all of them, even the Savages.
