I had a 14" 7/30 too. Barnes had just came out with the XBullet. I got some 120g and used them on a good sized wild boar. He ended up just over 350# and took three bullets before he tipped over. But I think one or two was plenty. Guy I was with demanded I keep shooting until he was down. But I recoved two bullets. They where not completely expanded so needed more velocity.

I had a 357 Herret but dont remember killing with-it. I had issues till I loaded with headspace on shoulder and rim. I DO remember it sheared screws! Factory #6 sheared right off. I re drilled for #8 and they loosened! I epoxied the base to the bbl. Then no more issues. I liked it. I think it went when I had to sell off guns when I lost my job in 2000.

the Barnes X-bullet, esp in 243 Win 85gr X bullet, is something that i don't care talk/type about. except to tell you that i crawled and hunched over 300+ yards of thickets and mountain laurel thru a foot snow to find my deer.

So many GREAT BULLETS lost to time...

I was unable to find 160 grain 6.5s from Sierra and Hornady for several years before selling my 6.5x55. Sure, 140s would have worked just fine, but I loved those old, long fence-posts, lumbering along at 2300 to 2400 fps.

Way too many good things have gone away in a compressed period of time. Cracks me up when I hear people go on about the superior sectional density of 6.5mm bullets and then load the lightest ones made of the caliber, completely oblivious to the fact that the heavier/longer bullets were what built their reputation. All relative - a 120 grain .257 bullet has better SD than a 120 grain .264 bullet, but probably not enough for the 98% of us who don't shoot competitively at long ranges. And I MEAN competitively, not just participating in the competition.

I just learned that 25s now come in a 1-7" twist to utilize 130 gr vld and 120 gr copper bullets ....... I thought to myself , as I typed it , what a waste of the fast and flat quarter bore . Turns it's about using it to it's fullest ......who knew . I was like go up .007 and shoot some 160s .......blah blah 130s buck the wind better ......well yeah but but then you're trading inertia drift resistance for flight time ....... Still waiting I don't think they liked that answer I didn't even mention that whole north south deal where the target isn't where it was when the sear broke .

Not impressed with 1-32" 45 but I can certainly see a way around the bugs .
