Rotometals....

Rotometals carries an alloy of reclaimed spent shot and bullets that has been melted, drossed and poured into 33 pound ingots. Average analysis is: 94-96& Pb, 3.46% Sb, 2.44% Sn and 0.173% Cu. 1,000 pound pallets sell for $1.39/lb. What do you guys think of this alloy as a general bullet casting alloy?

A bit harder for some use. I like softer for lower velocity/pressure had gun use.
If you have some pure to cut it with then it isn't bad.

I bet it has plenty of As too so it will harden pretty quickly when heat treated.

I think it would be outstanding as a base alloy.
it has a bit more tin then I would like but as a general alloy it would do just fine.
you could certainly add more soft lead to the mix, but as it sits it would cast easily and shoot well in everything.
it would also be clean and simple.
you don't have to hunt down ww's or buy from here and there a bit at a time hoping to get clean consistent lead, or having to take 'I'm not sure what that is but it's cheap so I'll do sumthin with it' alloy.

I think that is a steal. Would be great as is for a lot of uses except for as Brad said, low pressure low velocity stuff such as 45 ACP etc. were it could easily be cut down. Anyone that casts enough to warrant 1,000 pounds and $1400 should jump all over that like stink on a skunk.

Rotometals is now selling two 33# ingots at a price that works out to $1.59 per pound. I might have to try some out.

Man, if they got that down to a buck per lb it'd be worth snagging a large bunch of.
