Ben I highly recommend the 35-200 bullet. I've had my best luck with the 35-200 GC pushed by AA1680 lit off by Rem 7 1/2 primer.

Sorry the pics sideways. That's 5 at 100yds

I shot about 500 rounds through my encore with a MGM 357 max barrel before finding something I was happy with.

The 2 biggest pieces of the puzzle were AA1680 powder and using the rem 7 1/2 primers. I didn't have much luck using other primers and powder.

When I tried 180gr xtp's my best groups came using H110.

Everything I'm reading says the Rem. 7 1/2 is THE primer for the 357 Max. I don't have any, but I'll be getting some ! !

A good 28 lpi checkering job will take a few years off of your life, or seem like it. It takes me at minimum six years to recover from the knots in my neck, shoulders, wrists, and eyeballs.

Will, that's outstanding. I can't wait to see how Ben's rifle shoots Did someone say there was a scope mounted on it? I can't quite make it out for some reason....:p

I wish the new Henry single shot was offered in 357 Max. Of course, a trip to Oregon could convert one of the 223's right quick.

357 Maximum
18.5 grs. of IMR - 4227
Fed 205 Match rifle primer.
RCBS , 200 gr. , G/C, HP

This load should have some " gitty up and go."
I doubt that the deer are going to like this load .

I love it, Ben, it's almost like a .38-40 Hi Wall, but without many of the problems. We're supposed to be 107 this weekend, hope you fare better us on the shooting weather.

Question :

All the data that I'm looking at right now with the 357 Maximum has been shot in 10" and 12" pistol barrels.

How much will those velocities change in my 22 " rifle barrel ?

I was wondering the same thing. Makes me want to do that! Let me ask you 222 and the 357 the same deminsion head or it just works in the no 1.

Flat breech face. Chamber reamer takes care of the rest, including the extractor.
