Savage Axis Precision Rifle

Has anyone worked with one of these?

They offer it in .30-06, which I have found to be a better cast chambering even than .308. I have a couple of dedicated cast bullet .30 caliber rifles that will only ever see paper from a bench rest, just looking at these and wondering how much there is to the "precision rifle" concept, chassis, etc.

I have had a few factory Savage rifles. They seem to shoot very well for what they are. Most will have a very rough barrel. They will foul till you get a bunch of rounds through them. If I was going to use it for a cast bullet rifle, I would run at least 200rnds of jacketed through it first to smooth it up a little. They tend to have short and tight throats. Then some will have large and long. It is dependent on which reamers were used.

They can switch barrels very easy. The one thing I really like about them. Every one I have had I switched out the barrels for custom. Whats funny is a few shot the same as the factory barrels. But they looked better and cleaned up very easy compared to the factory barrels.

That stock is very ridged and is WAY better than almost every other stock they offer. It can be custom fitted to YOU. That helps a lot
