Cast a few hundred with my 4 cavity Lyman today. ACCOWW + 2% Sn drops right at .430" from this mold.
They will get loaded with 8-9gr Unique and 19gr 2400

Will do. Most will be shot from my 5" S&W 29 Classic. Maybe some in the 5" Ruger SRH.
My 1894 Marlin is still out of commission with the dammed "jam" problem.
I have not had time to address this....

mmm hmm.
yours got a cavity or two that don't like to let go of the square lube grooves?

Lamar. I'm pretty lucky. They all fall freely with a little tap on the hinge pin.

Maybe I am just an old stoic, stuck in my ways, BUT, I like, actually
prefer Keith designs over so called modern designs. If they worked
well for Elmer, they are just fine for me.

mine has one cavity that gets a little tight and needs some help dropping the bullet.
it doesn't make a mark on the bullet or leave a clue behind as to where it's holding up
it hangs them all up a touch when it's making the best bullets then that one is more stubborn that the others.
I sometimes just close the mold and pour 3 more and it falls right out with the others.
I been going to mess with it a little but I have a 5 gallon bucket of them cast/lubed up so figure it can wait the 20 years until I get to it.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I have a couple like that too. It seems like one cavity is more sensitive to mould temp than the other three. I see it in both aluminum & iron moulds, and it's just plain strange. Some want to be hotter, some want to be cooler. I've lapped a couple of them lightly, but the issue usually persists to some degree.

I am rather fond of a 5" barrel. Still easy enough to pack around yet has enough sight radius to still make decent shots at distance.

that's a good illustration of the frame and grip differences between the two guns too.

The Ruger wins in the "girth" department hands down. The Smith is way more comfortable in my hand.

I have three or four 429421 molds, round and square lube grooves. The nose on all four is different. I would have to look but one is a maker other than Lyman I am pretty sure.
I have one that is a single cavity and I have been told it is the original design.
The nose and front driving band are different than the other three. Buddy had picked it up some place, cast a few and decided a SC mold was to slow and did not perform well in his FA. I grabbed it and ran. I cast a fair pile and tried them in my Ruger. It liked them, so I loaded up a hundred. Dunno what I did different but his FA really liked them. Fast forward, I picked up my own FA and tried them. No go. More of a pattern than a group.
Taste tested. Some with a round lube groove and I was in business.
Odd how the likes and dislikes are among wheel guns.

I have an old Ideal SC HP with a rounded lube groove and it shoots very well.

I have 430421 2C that was gifted to me by a very talented machinist . It was intended to be opened to drop .434 . It had some unsatisfactory tool marks when the finish cut was made so he made a tool to clean up the marks .......
Long/short it drops the original standard depth of slightly tapered grooves but at .448 and 257 gr . It is as good in green bar paper as any of the 45 cal bullets I replaced with it .
I didn't get any of the gains I had hoped I would . It is on deck to try in a 45 Raptor/460 S&W rifle .
