My friend Nick has a Blue, 4", Model 29, 44 Mag.
He wanted about 20 rounds of " snake loads "
The load is .44 Mag. brass, 5.5 grs. Unique, an aluminum g/c on top of the powder, 152 grs. of # 9 shot, another aluminum g/c on top and a light crimp.

Here it is at 7 yards............Snakes beware :

Wow, that's a good pattern for 21 feet! In all the revolver shot testing I did, the shorter barrels always patterned the best.

I used to use No. 9 shot in 38 Spl. loads.
Now I've gone to 1/2 No. 9 and 1/2 No. 12.
Do you know how hard it was to get No. 12 shot. I had to special order it! But it does a good job filling in the gaps the No. 9s leave.
At 6-8 feet the No. 12s have plenty of penetration.

I got five pounds of #12 shot from Midway one of the few times they had any in stock. The stuff is like gold.

Lord, I'm getting old!
I remember when Lawrence Chilled Shot was $10.00 a 25# bag and Magnum Shot was $12.00!

I remember when my Dad and 2 buddies pooled $200 and gas money and went to El Segundo from up on the desert and came home with 60 bags of #2,5,6 and 8s ..... I can see the plastic bags with the red trimmed almost green but yellow lable and red letters ......... Can't remember the name on it . The 56' F100 still had the hood on it so it must have been about 1968-9' .
It probably stands out because it was the first time the bumper was low enough for me to climb in by myself .
$40 a bag makes me pretty happy to have 20 or so bags packed away yet .

the really bad part is not only are the prices we are seeing on most of this shot high, but
unfortunately the antimony level has also come down as well.
much of the shot on the shelves [damn earth quake] has only 2-3.5% antimony.

Have loaded and shot a number of shot ctgs, and found the best
success with the Speer capsalles (sp). They are cheap enough for
the amount that you need. Have loaded them for 38,357,44,& will
probably get around to 45 colt one of these days. Have loaded with
GC's as well, just like Ben, and as Ben states they work just fine.
I like the Speer Caps, as they afford a bit more shot vol. I have
always used #9 shot, being to cheap to afford the very high priced
#11 shot. Agree with who ever said they shoot best from short
bbl revolvers.
