Spend money or save money ? ?

Ben. I have the same rifle. No practical purpose for me. The little round sounded fun and it was an excuse to buy a new rifle. A very fun little rifle I might add!

I'd prefer the .30-30 also, but am a little leery of exposed hammers and kids/women. I see you have a hammer spur on the handi now, a real asset from my perspective. I used to teach hunter safety classes here, with the last day being a range day. The kids that had them brought guns to shoot and those that didn't could borrow some we had. We had action types of just about everything. It was apparent smaller build boys and most girls had problems with exposed hammers and thumb strength. Those with smaller hands, tried to get more leverage, to cock the hammer, by placing at least one finger inside the trigger guard. Not a real safe practice, and consider also, most of these kids would be wearing gloves come deer season. My 77/44 was a big hit with the smaller kids for fit and function. The recoil reminded them it wasn't a toy also.

Since that particular 30/30 handi has proven itself super accurate, i'd say he's already well set for the range or the woods!

Talking about saving money lol. If i had just stuck with the 30/30 marlin i had in high school...i'd be way ahead of the game in that regard.

Buddy,

All the coaches know exactly which play they SHOULD HAVE run on Friday night.

my football coach told me every play in the book was a touchdown if it was executed properly.

I like the 30-30 in a lever. not sure I would have one in a SS. w/r/t to the 300 BO - for ME, not in a bolt. I DO have one on an AR platform. Because I had a trade of low value, and guy was willing. Purpose for it is 20-30 rnd capacity 30 cal for hogs up close and personal (also a good home defense with big slow stuff). But imo, anything at any bullet weight under 175 grn that the BO will do, the 30-30 will probably do better. FP/RN vs spitzer argument, etc. But I really view my BO as a 30-30 equiv on an AR platform, and just because I need at least one thing that doesn't mark me as a dinosaur...

At large, whereabouts unknown.
300BO does have it's place in the world, a light, fast handling semi-auto carbine. Especially a suppressed one. I've shot both bolt rifles and ARs in 300BO, suppressed, and not. I will likely build a 300 after my 458 SOCOM project is done, but it's not an urgent need by any means. As others have mentioned, since I cast almost everything I shoot these days, I can make pretty much any 30 cal manual action rifle do what the 300 will do, and more.

Like this. Suppressor only adds 2" to it. Sounds like a brad nailer and will deliver just shy of one pound of lead on target in under three seconds if you do your part. *not a toy*...but definitely fun if you're into that sort of thing.

Ben,
I know I for one have been looking for a 30-30 barrel for my NEF Handi Rifle. I think you know my feelings on the .30 WCF : "If you have that well you have one of the best 30 cal Cast Bullet rifles"! An endless supply of 30 cal moulds!

Go with the 30-30.
The first rifle my Dad gave me was a 30-30 single shot with open sights. Hunted for a couple of years with it. I was 8 when I got it.
Used it to teach my daughter to shoot rifles. It's hers now.
I'm just keeping it in my gun safe for her.

I like it! All I have as far as an AR goes is a bone stock S&W M&P15 Sport that wears an old Bushnell Holo Sight.

Latest model (at recent SHOT Show) of the 300BLK RAP accepts AR mags... waiting for an aftermarket conversion for mine. Rotary mags aren't the best.
I load heavy & slow on my RAP that my AR pistol nor carbine won't cycle...
