Yesterday, I looked at a new T/C Venture , 30-06 bolt action rifle.

It has the " 5-R " rifling.
Factory guarantees 1" group @ 100 yards with " Premium ammo ".
$75 rebate now until Dec. 28 th

My question is, what about cast bullet accuracy ?
Anyone have any experience with the rifles with cast ????

I had heard short while ago that T/C had come out with the bolt gun, haven't seen one yet or heard of anyone that I know with one. Interesting though.

Thanks Rick,

I really liked the trigger on the one I examined.
Clean and crisp.
The trigger is adjustable , but the one I looked at didn't need anything.

5R rifling is supposed to deform bullets less than traditional rifling. I think it would work very well with cast. The reduction in angle in the corners of the lands would, in my opinion, reduce the chance of gas leaking by in that area.

I have a feeling Ben will soon be able to answer that for us.

I have a rem 700 w 5r rifling. Super clean barrel the rifling doesn’t contaminate easily from gripping into lead like I’m thinking Teflon cooking surfaces in nature and it shoots great! I like my tc 30-06 trigger and safety location.

5-R.
think Marlin or LEE-Metford or Arisaka.
anyway it's called 5-R because it has 5 radius cut into each land.
to the naked eye it looks like a rounded over mis-shaped bump.

I have a Douglas 5-R barrel on my 7x57 ICL it shoots some pretty small groups with hunting ammo.
I chose it at the time because the rifling type is easier on jackets and allows them to penetrate a bit better.
something I figured was a good thing for a rifle built around 140gr bullets at 2800+ fps.

My Rem 700 VS .308 has 5R rifling and there isn't a cast bullet shape /style or weight that it doesn't plain out like....Bergara makes the 5r rifled barrels used on some Rem 700.....could be making these..

5r from 155 to 200 grain first group 312 299PB 100 yds

I have a Rock Creek gain twist Bisley .308 barrel in the 5R configuration, haven't really pushed it very hard though. It shoots Remington Core-Lokt factory ammo into 3/4", so I keep that combo as a spare for guests.

I’ve only heard good things from owners of the T/C bolt guns. No experience personally. As to 5R barrels my 280 AI wears a Bartlein. Very scary accurate.
