T/C Contender Fun

Just got back online after a long hiatus, one of my recent acquisitions has been at Contender in 30 Herrett, as well as a 222 and 256 Win Mag barrel. I'm hoping to be getting the Herrett up and running once I form some brass which is an interesting experience. Hoping to load up some 312-155-2r's and some 311440's to putz with and see if I can get a good 100 yd group. Next up is the 256 WM, I'm most excited about the 256 to be honest but need to get the dies.

I'm a Contender fan, but all mine have over 16" barrels and butt stocks. They make the neatest little "homestead rifle" package a body could want - short of defending oneself against zombie hoards. The have a utility factor of about 99, but a FUN factor of about 110.

All the same, I enjoy reading about Contenders, period. Always good to see someone else excited about them. Your chamber choices are very appealing - not seeking the absolute maximum "raw power" for the platform, but stuff which demands finesse over brute force.

Yeah, my raw power days are slowly going behind me, I'm finding much more enjoyment in low power to middle of the road power loads in rifles and handguns that just make sense. The Herrett I bought because it's a bit more than a 300 blk but with a great rim and track record of accuracy.

The 256 barrel is something I've always wanted to play with as a 200 yd varmint handgun and possibly a sub 100 yd deer handgun (the 30 Herrett is much better at this role)

The 222 was just because I have a bunch of 222 stuff and decided to run with it. Why the heck not! It'll be interesting to compare to the 256 on target and varmint impacts in it's intended range.
