I'm glad I posted this thread
I'm learning a lot!
Thanks for all of you sharing the information.
Didn't really need to bump any necks at this time....and I knew the term but was never sure if it was done with a specialized die

It CAN be done with a specialized die but it can also be done with a normal old FL die.
Much depends on the needs of the rifle and the application.

Don, when I was tinkering with a 6BR close to 20 years ago, there were several dies I used. It was about the time bushing dies were being used. I had three or four die set, Redding. Then there were some others and danged if I recall who made them, I have slept since then.
There was a body die. It did not touch the shoulder. Then there was another die that all it did was bump the shoulder. And, it seems like there was another die that bumped the shoulder and sized the body, it was also a bushing die.
Also had a "bump" die for a 7 TCU. It touched nothing but the shoulder.
Not saying there run of the mill made for the masses and available at your favorite gun shop.
I do recall a visit with Bruce at Redding years back on the subject.

JSH,

The only shoulder bump dies that I am familiar with are the Redding body dies which bump the shoulder and resize the body, and the Forster bump/necksizing die which bumps the shoulder without resizing the body and necksizes using their bushings. Leave out the bushing in the Forster and it will only bump the shoulder. Sounds like an interesting die, and if I didn't already have the Redding Competition Die Sets with all the different bushings, I wouldn't mind getting the Forster.
