As is my wont, I tried something with myself as the test dummy [Vince or Larry?]. Whipped out the Bisquik and tried the Ultimate Pancake recipe... Must be some settling, the first few were dense. Being smarter than the average bear, I added another 1/4c of milk to the remaining batter. THAT fixed the heaviness. The next problem was the Wagner cast iron skillet was too small, maybe a 10 incher, so you can't make up too many at a time. We do have a "Wagner 1891" put out by Lodge, but the underside was never flat... The US needs dependable cast iron. Smooth interior, flat bottom, flat underside. None of this stoopidity of the pebbled "pre-seasoned" stuff. The 10" skillet's underside was roughed up by the sulfur from being used on a coal stove... You can see the stylized "W" on Wagner Ware , but the rest of the lettering is gone, corroded by sulfur.
Wagner Ware Sidney -O- , Stylized Logo, 1922-1959 This was from my mom's side.
But.. I made up a large pancake with the end of the batter, it browned nicely... I took the plate of experimental pancakes outside and threw them on the snow. My little girl came up from the back and checked them out. Satisfied, she took about half of them [one-by-one] and carefully selected the suitable snow bank to bury them in. What made me laugh was Belle walking towards the back with that big pancake hanging out of both sides of her mouth. It resembled a limp rabbit...
