Weighing cast bullets?

One winter. I sat down with a set of E scales and went through 1200 .22 bullets. I seperated them by .1 grain increments into old .22 bullet boxes with one for extral light and one for extra heavy. Took me a while.
At the end, I counted each weight and plotted the 10 lots on a graph. A perfect bell curve.
When the weather broke, I was loaded and ready with a test lot from the high point of the curve, a test lot from the low end and a test lot from the high end.
Expecting big results from the high part of the curve but was dissapointed that they gave me no better groups than randomly selected bullets despite being within .1 grain of each other. Next I tested the low end which varied as much as .5 grain. Not bad as I expected but not as good as random selected bullets. Next was the high weight end, again varried as much as .5 grain on the heavy side. Results surprised me. Accuracy was better than the underweight group and the middle of the curve .1 grain bullets. This led me to beleive that heavier bullets had fewer voids than any of the others.
I did learn an important lesson from this exercise. It's a waste to time to weigh bullets and expect magic results. Just be ruthless in culling your cast and results will be as good as those with bullets weighed into .1 grain increments./beagle

I have been weighing all my rifle bullets.
I don`t break them down in .1 increments.
I just toss all of the ones that quite a bit lighter thinking that there is a void.

Haven't seen mentioned here but mold temp will have a rather large effect on the weight of the bullet. A consistent mold temp goes a long way towards consistent bullet weights, not necessarily a void in the bullet.

The key word is "Here" He puts back a pound at the local watering hole:rofl:
Ha! I never played well at Bars/watering holes. Seems I was always good at stopping fists with my face and too dang dumb to walk away from it!

Ive eaten many a raw peanut out of fields while hunting Cranes and Geese. You can get away with eating a couple. Them suckers will turn your butt into a faucet and turn you away from eating peanuts altogether.
