When I'm gone...................

My grandson Trevor really enjoys shooting and reloading.
My goal is for him to be self sufficient for his 38 Special ammo needs by the time he is 18 yrs. old ( 4 yrs. away ).
I have an old IDEAL single cav. 356402 that cast near 100% keepers .
Trevor needed a way to size his cast bullets and lube them.
Right now, high volume isn't the goal.
The ability to provide himself with 50 rounds of reliable ammo for his 38 Spec.is the goal.

Today, I've worked on a simple system that will provide him cast bullets.
He has a brand new RCBS ladle pot. Now with this mould, sizer die, and lube system he should be able to provide himself with some cast bullets. Not at a high rate of speed, but none the less, some nice high quality cast bullets.

Not having a lube sizer won't stop Trevor from lubing his cast bullets.

Not the quickest way, but it will work and provide him with some nice cast bullets.

I love the whole setup, Ben, but the lube trick is just too cool.

I love the whole CONCEPT as well. He'll learn more and appreciate more this way too. He can always have this base-kit as a backup to whatever fancier tools he decides he needs in the future too.

lube first then run through the size die.
it makes the trip a ton smoother and the bullets come out a lot neater.

jus throwin that out there having finger lubed 3-4 trillion bullets in my time.

yep, and it's a lot faster than most would think once you get the hang of it.
i just kept a glob of lube in my hand, worked a bit up to my thumb and finger, then wiped it lengthwise into the groove.
sized, and got the excess back off the edge of the die.

I'll throw this out for whatever it is worth.

If we don't take the time to teach casting, reloading and firearm skills to young people, I think you all know exactly what is going to happen to our sport.
I agree 100%. But that old adage “ You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink “ keeps popping up. Try as I might, I only get lip service from my attempts to get them to load ammo and only one of them has attempted casting. When I say them, I have five grandsons. All but one live right here within 5 miles of my home.

Ben, why not BLL tumble lube? I use that for all my pistol bullets (that aren’t PC’d).
