Where I'm at

Well, to be honest I'm attempting to fire all my old stored away rifles using casts boolits! I have learned a lot in 3 years and as of now my 8 mm Mauser rifles are down pat. I 'm pretty sure my 30-30 Marlin is down pat. along with my Remington 78 in .223 ....These are just so shootable with cast.....,So there is no new challenge, at this time with them.

Right now I 'm concentrating on shooting My 1980's Ruger 77V .243 along with my Marlin 336 in 35 Rem my Dad bought for me in 1964
Both are looking very promising. I now ( up in age) like light enjoyable loads
My most recent 35 Rem group is below: using 5 grains BE with a 125 TC boolit

And My Most recent 10 shot .243 group is below: using 11,1 gr, Unique qith the SAECO 85 gr boolit
10 shots into .75 "

Sorry: the "new 100"..... It was 50 yds. That is where I test my loads for the first time. As soon as the weather gets better I'm going to the 100 yd range ( still a pile of snow to wade through in the NE)

Jim,

I shoot a good bit at 50 yards also.
If it shoots good at 50, then I'll move on out to 100 yards.

You're having some good fun , that is clear from all your test targets.

Best to you,
Ben

hey JW look at those 3 holes on the top target on the right.
notice anything different about them?

actually they look like the target holes I get with a plastic campaign sign type backer.

but the holes looking different is from the boolit not quite hitting square on like they are a bit out of balance.
I don't think they are 'flyers' I think they were culls that were missed.

If you are referring to the 3 shots circled on the RH .35 target those were a different load That is why they are circled

That would 'splain it. A lot can be told from a bullet hole, we're not picking, just curious is all.

On a whim a couple years ago I loaded some Lee 150-grain round nose PB bullets for my .35 Remington 336 with some Unique and worked up a really fun load. I have no idea how fast they are but they aren't cream puffs, I'm guessing 14-1500 fps, I stopped about three grains past supersonic. No Coke can or clay pigeon is safe on the 100-yard berm now that I got a nice 4x Weaver on it. Great fun to shoot from the sitting position with cross-sticks.

Like Ben, I shoot a lot at 50 yds, for testing, and when the loads/groups are promising, move out to 100. Also, testing at 50 yds saves me 100 yds of walking every time I post or pull targets. And in theory (at least) you can double your group size shot at 50 yds for 100 yd group potential. However that doesn't always seem to work our for me.

I have a different system. I like to make sure I catch paper on the pistol range(25-30yds) rps20150323_224129.jpg
before any frustrations ever begin on the rifle range. It leads to more fun and less wasted shots. My wife bested me with this 30yds group with 7gr of red dot from a 336w and the mp312-159 designed by 45 2.1
We never missed paper to start and had fun.
