So while you guys have been having fun..I Bubbaed a Stith mount and a a Stith 4x scope by Weaver with 1/2" brass shim...I "antiqued" the brass with ammonia fumes ( both are actually the same color and darker than the pictures show)...now it fits my Winchester model 54 in 30-30 so as not to have to work on the bolt....nice little gun this 54.
The interesting part here is that the scope only has an adjustments for elevation...windage is adjusted via two screws on the base...this thing is crystal clear BTW..
The gun has shown some promise so I thought the work was worth while....
I have been on a Plain Base kick lately so I thought I would try the NOE's 30 Hunter and Noe #315..
both plain based by drilling out the GC and both cast with COWW +2% Pewter....sized .310 lubed with Ben's Red and Lightly rolled in BLL.
I pushed these along with 7.3 grs of Universal....figure they are doing about 1250 FPS....got Unique ...like this better...
I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story..and it does ..especially with my use of scopes...and that 5th round screw up....
Jim ...what you might find interesting is that the first and second groups were fired with me trying to fit the gun..I was NOT comfortable at all...constantly trying to get my head down...so dhuuu...I readjusted the rear bag backwards so as to raise the butt stock then elevated the front rest to get a good sight picture...groups 3 and four were shot with this set up...slight difference I would say...
enjoy the pictures ..and thanks for looking
