WW 572 powder as replacement for SR4756?

Several people have asked about this powder as a high performance powder for 38 special and 44 special. Does anyone here have first hand experience with this ball powder?

Yep, we've read all those releases but nobody has reloaded with it that hangs out at any the sites I visit. Does it leave the same chemical residue as AA #7 or #9 if loaded at 38 special pressures. Have the chrony lovers shot it to see how consistent it preforms? Does it come close to the performance Hodgdon's web site claims? (I'm too cheap to buy a pound and at -5 degrees it is too cold to shoot it here!)

Reading the literature provided by Ben, this sure seems to fill the niches I service with Herco quite well. I planned on a test series with both Unique and Herco in 32/20 revolvers shortly. Early indicia seems to show the Herco to be more consistent than Unique, at least in 4-3/4" and 5" barrels. SD and ES are about half as wide with Herco as I get with Unique. Gotta try the rifle, and a couple more bullets before I find Unique guilty.

Interesting. Did not know this powder was offered.

I have complained several times to Hodgdon that W571, discontinued years ago, had no
equal in .38 Super loads near the limits of pressure. I could, with Hodgdon blessed data, get 1250 fps in
a 5" 1911 with a 147 gr LSWC. Great load, made the old 180,000 IPSC major caliber safely, although
some brass was not happy in my unsupported chamber barrel. Remington +P, any PMC or Midway
headstamp brass worked fine, I have some with the headstamp battered into oblivion and tight primer
pockets.
I could also get 1400 fps with a 125 JHP in the same gun. These are chronoed speeds, not
book claims.

I hope W572 is close to it.

No luck. I just went to Hodgdon's site and the max for W572 under a 147 gr XTP is only
1,147 at 34.700 psi. Of course, that is 200 fps faster than you can get a 147 XTP going in
9m Para, so not bad. And it is the fastest powder in .38 Super at that weight.

Hmm. They do not show +P loads for W572, and not for cast, which, IME will go faster than
Jbullets much of the time, on the same powder charge. They show 5.9 under the 147 XTP as
max, I was using 7.1 of W571 under a cast 147 LSWC, definitely at +P pressures, 36Kpsi, IIRC.

Might still get there with W572 and cast.

Another new powder, IMR Unequal, will beat W572 with a 147 gr XTP! They list it at 1175 fps, closer
to my old W571 load. I will need to learn about IMR Unequal.

Great example of how Lead is superior.

.38 Spl, std pressure. IMR Unequal, 158 XTP. Max is 4.2 gr for 777 fps.
IMR Uequal, 158 MEI cast, max is 4.6 for 966 --- both loads at 16,500 psi.

This makes me think that with the 147 cast and IMR Unequal, I may well be able to
bump up to 1250 from the 1175 that they get with the 147 XTP. I have a few pounds
of W571 remaining, this may be my replacement.

Nobody around here has had any of the W572, that I have seen at gun shows.
Anybody see this new IMR red, IMR Unequal, IMR Target, IMR Blue?
I see them in the loading data charts, but that is all.
