+1 for the positive attributes of a bevel base, thank you for pointing that out. They still fin on both sides of the band at the engraves, but don't cup. When powder-coating an existing design which already casts full-diameter, the BB or GC designs tolerate being sized down .004" or more (often in one step before coating and one afterwards) without trailing off a bunch of metal or having to push them through a Lee-style sizing die base-first. The BB and GC also shoot far better for me than PB designs when using the coating.

For those of you who don't like bevel bases, Tom has cut at least one of these in plain base for a customer in Australia who sent me this pic.
He says it weighs 209 grains naked and 210 grains lubed, and it feeds well in both his Winchester 1873 and in a '92. No drawing on the web site, but you can order it as 43-206H-PB

That would be me.

I shot them today in my 1873 and wow, they are accurate.
The picture below is 2 separate 5 shots groups at 55yds. I moved the rear tang sight about 10 clicks to separate the groups.
Load is 7.0gn of Unique, chronographed at 1080fps in my 24" barrel.Accurate 43-206H 2x5-shot group_1873_7gn Unique.jpg

FYI, the 43-206H-PB is just the name of the pic i posted, not the order code.
To get the plain base just order the 43-206H as normal and in the notes section ask for the bevel to be taken out.

Outpost 75 "called" my sole objection to the bevel base design element--that in Lyman/RCBS H&I dies, that bevel behaves like a lube groove. Not the End of The World, by any means--it just makes a bit of a mess. A bit of "I"-rod depth adjustment resolves most of this, much of the time. "First World" problem, really.

Thanks to Outpost 75 also for detailing his rationale concerning the bevel based bullets. This is such a great site, the knowledge base here is considerable.

I guess the prejudice I have came from My Dad over 60yrs ago. He Hated bevel base bullets. And He used a Star Lube-Sizer too. It always seemed to me they would go up into the seat die crooked unless you held them straight with your fingers. Just another inconvenience while loading.

After reading Outpost 75's rational, I'm rethinking my dislike of bevel base bullets.

The Magma bullet that I had to buy during My Cowboy Shooting days buy was bevel base. Was more accurate on paper then the #42798 I cast mself. Maybe the bevel base was why.
