"Natural" lube

Wow..never heard of a match being that strict with components..outside of black & no gas checks. Anyway, I try to use natural ingrediants on account of their "long chain" molecular make-up. Al of my lubes have a pure Beeswax base to which I add Anhydrous Lanolin, Castor oil, JoJoba oil, Bayberry wax, Carnauba wax...go easy with this, a little amount really stiffens things up..but your bore will shine like never before! Mutton tallow, Ozocerite wax., and Pariffin wax..these two are mineral waxes. I don't use all of these together! You can vary hardness by increasing wax . The Bayberry wax is interesting...extreemly hard & brittle..if cut with wood chisle, you get chunks and lots of dust..I thought this stuff will really harden up my lube..not so..didn't really stiffen up at all, but it did make it much smoother in consistancy. Watch out using Tallow base lubes..I did a test for salt in the 90's..published in the Fouling Shot. There is salt in Tallow, while no problem with black and the resultant water-base clean-up..smokeless loads with their usual bore cleaners could give your bore a nasty surprise. Best of luck!

If it is a warm sunny day, go all out with the au natural, rub some coconut oil on it and shoot it naked.

the U.S govmn't used Bayberry wax in the late 1880's, they basically melted the stuff and dip lubed the bullets.
it was also used to dip paper patched [loaded] rounds in after they were loaded. [womens and kids work back then patching and dipping]

Let's put women and kids back to work. They'll get themselves and the rest of us into less trouble.

Just wondering how far the phrase "no man-made lubricant components" is taken. I think any oil you buy in a store is processed and hence man-made. If the intent is to mean created by man and do not exist in nature, then probably the only things that comes to mind would be synthetic oils and silicone lubes. Fossil oils exist in nature just like vegetable oils and peanut oils, but man has to process the vegetables or crude to arrive at the final product. My guess is man-made in his mind means no petroleum-based oils or greases.

I know he's using smokeless, but I had great luck with Paul Matthews lube for many years in my Shiloh. That said, a good friend shot 50/50 beeswax and Crisco and won the senior class in the nationals at Raton with that lube.

man doesn't make petroleum he refines it into other stuff.
ozokerite is a natural petroleum wax, kind of a poor analogy, but it's super similar to picking bits and pieces of pine tar off a tree.

Even in the dead of winters, the smell of coconut oil makes me think of girls sunbathing.

Might get one disqualified for inducing an unfair distraction.

I personally could ignore a naked man shooting black powder, but the coconut oil aroma would be a difficult distraction.

Oh brother.

How about going the paper patch route sans the paper and just patch with an appropriately sized piece of thinly sliced bacon, two wraps should work.

I prefer unleaded bacon. It is also a good thing I live in Nebraska where we have the ethanol blend bacon- baconahol. Just don’t leave in small engines over the winter.

How about veggie bacon grease? Sodium free, of course
