Your experience is the polar opposite of mine using #358477. It has been the bar-none best bullet in every 38 Special I've ever owned, every bit as good as #358429 (heresy, I know). It gets more use in a couple 38 S&Ws with narrower throats these days. My 38 S&Ws range from .359" to .363", as poetic as 44 Specials/Magnums and 45 Colts.

Glad ya got it working!!

I have tried in 9mm but its not so good but fine in 357/38. I like the Saeco 383 & Lyman 356637 for the 9/Super.

Ive tried it in 5 handguns and a 1894 marlin,,total dud.358156 and 358429 will make it look silly.
But it may just be the ticket for the sig!

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Ah! You got a skinny, that's the problem. I'm happy to say I don't own a single mould for the 35's that drops less than .358+. I have a couple that run .361 and could use a .363!

I beagle my smaller moulds and it helps. My 358477 drops around 360 and is far more accurate than my 3584269.

I have 2 ideations of the #358477. The Lyman 2-cavity drops 92/6/2 alloy at a few tenths over .359", and the 4-cav NOE drops it at a few tenths over .360". In unalloyed lead, the NOE castings are right at .360". These all-lead bullets are used in 38 Special @ .359" and 38 S&W @ .361". In the Special I have run them at 900 FPS, and zero leading.

I haven't been my usual heretical self of late, so here goes. This messing around I've done with unalloyed bullets prompts a thought or 2 (always dangerous, that). If you are going to use pure lead bullets in smokeless loadings, you'll need to expand the case mouths a bit more than usual--basically, to the size of the bullet involved. Case mouth spring-back after expansion will suffice for bullet retention, but a mild roll crimp will snug things up. I am confident in asserting that the "Hard cast" bullets of commercial providers have been successful because those hard monsters do a better job of resisting compression during seating into the 'way-undersized case mouths produced by current-day die sets that are biased for loading jacketed bullets.
