I've been refinishing a 700 Remington BDL stock for a friend.
The stock had epoxy on it.
The epoxy was the :angry:DEVIL:angry: to get off.
Notice that the epoxy had a lot of red mahogany pigment in it.
The owner hated this and wanted the stock to be much lighter.

Here are the before and after photos on this job :

True oil.
About 12 coats
Each coat allowed to dry and then that
coat was leveled prior to the next coat.

Kevin,

I'd rather not get into a lot of details on the open forum.
( This is a bit like asking Coca Cola for their exact formulas for their drinks ) It took me 35 years to learn how to do this............

Finish is way to shinny for my taste, but the transformation is stunning, something like when the girl kissed the frog. I do like a True Oil finish, I just knock down the gloss on mine. Beautiful work Ben.

I've got a TCR 83 that I would love to send to Ben. Problem though is the cost. That's not to say his work isn't worth it, no doubt it's worth every penny. Problem is that the stock alone would then be worth more than the whole rifle. I may surprise myself one day and send it off to him but so far have been able to resist the temptation.

All of those are beautiful. My own tastes go more towards an eggshell finish on field guns but shiny on a showpiece is just fine. I think shiny finishes show some cosmetic defects more than matte finishes, and I know how often I would ding up a working gun. In any case those show excellent workmanship.
