Tornado warnings and a good thunder boomer. A couple good lightning hits, but out in the middle of the woods. So no harm to man or property. All is calm now.

The clouds chickened out by 3 P.M. So unreliable.

The rain is truly really supposed to happen on Friday, though. The weather guessers have caused the Whitewater River canyon north of I-10 to be closed all day tomorrow, they seem to think gully-washer rainstorms will descend after noon, in burn-scarred areas denuded by last summer's fires. Mud, rocks, trees, brush, and whatever else raging gully-washers can bring along for the ride might make things unpleasant in the upper canyon bottom. That's one of the pleasant (?) parts of desert-edge river bottom topography and vegetation--if you get tired of it over time, a nice flash flood will come along and re-condition things for you right efficiently.

Hit 99 here, yesterday afternoon. Would have been higher if we didn't have the late afternoon filtered sun. Century marks is still in the forecast for today and tomorrow. :sigh:

Cooler next week, mid to upper 80's. happy dance.jpg

More monsoons, but not right here. The back way to Big Bear Lake (SR 38) got closed yesterday due to a mudslide near Deadman Lake, we got caught in the stopped traffic and were able to flip around and turn back at Angelus Oaks. It is open today. LOTS of roads inside Death Valley are closed due to flash floods and mudflows today, I imagine similar conditions prevail inside the Mojave National Preserve. This is a dicey time of year to run about in the desert--either the heat will sap your reserves, or some gully-washer will make things exciting unexpectedly. Probably good to be at home, enjoying the air conditioning.

It's 99* here now, with all the clouds boiling over the mountains the humidity is abnormally high. Not real fun to play in the garage right now--maybe later.

We're finally getting our summer. Been rainy and not terribly hot all through the last half of June and first three weeks of July. Stuff is at maximum green, will be a few more weeks until the baked brown begins, if we don't get storms from hurricane season. Super cold winter with record lows at one point, mild (for us) summer, I like this whole "global warming" thing.

Broke 100⁰ last two days, 104⁰ and 36% humidity currently, with with the sort of sunshine that is painful to bare skin in 10 seconds.

just looking out the window at that type of sunshine hurts the skin.
we get UV days that get up to 12, and you feel the rays hitting and burning the skin just walking around the yard as you go in and out of the shade.

Just got quite windy about 20 minutes ago. Lightning & thunder followed a couple of minutes later. Supposed to be rain next.

Just checked the Doppler. storm cell going from the NW to the SE. Most of it should just miss you.

The haze from the smoke was reduced today but still noticeable. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I got home Thursday night from Springfield, MO where it was clear as could be.

2/10" of precipitation, mostly from this AM. Very little overnight, though driveway was wet at 5 AM. Our thermometer hit 101* at 4:20 PM, yesterday. Seventy seven degrees at 5 AM. Currently, 80* with sun coming out. Expected high is just in the mid 80's.

Hooray!, it's August, and that means the June Gloom ought to start its disappearing act in three or four weeks.
