The eye glasses ping-pong game, between the optometrist and Costco is over. So as to not spend an hour composing the game's end, I'll just say that I'm keeping the two-year-old prescription and glasses.

Your first mistake was using an optometrist. Never ever again for me, nothing but grief. Regardless what they call themselves an optometrist IS NOT an eye doctor. An optometrist is nothing more than an eye glass salesman and their only interest is selling you more and more radically overpriced glasses. Helping you isn't even on the priority list, only helping their bank account.

Make an appointment with a real eye doctor and go see an Ophthalmologist.

The problem was not due to me using an optometrist. The lady is a third-generation optometrist and an excellent one, at that. Rather, it was one of Costco not offering the option of Varilux's wide-angle, no-line bi-focal grinding.

I used an ophthalmologist to repair a torn retina.

SO, out doing some work putting up a tree stand on the back part of the property. Came back to the house to get something and there's a big pond turtle in the driveway. Understand, we're a mile or better from any permanent water source. It's not real hot, maybe 60 degrees, but it is dry, can't believe she made it that far.

I've always had a soft spot for turtles, so I got her in the truck to run down to the creek that crosses the black top we live close to, climbed down the embankment and gently put her in, stayed in her shell a long time, poked a couple of feet out but still stayed in and seemed almost dead, which surprised me. Current was slow, so I watched her float away several minutes before coming to life and swimming for deep water.

It dawned on me that while the air temperature is pretty warm, that water was probably still less than 40 degrees, I may have put her in some kind of shock for a few minutes. Have to be more careful next time.

Been meaning to sneak over to that spot under the bridge and put a line in just to see what bites. I really need to fish more.

Maybe she was looking for a place to lay her eggs?
Now she'll have to make that hike all over again, LOL.

It's turtle mating season, here in the Ozarks. They're on the move looking for mates. Frequently, seen crossing the roads. Mostly, Box Turtles. They are terrestrial.

If she had layed eggs here, the babies would have died for sure. She would have if I hadn't moved her.

If it had been a box turtle, I'd have moved it someplace on the property where I wouldn't have to worry about hitting it with a mower. I like those little guys, kept many as pets growing up.

I got that tree stand up, definitely in a good ambush point on a couple of well-used trails. When the foliage is down some, I'll be able to cover area where a lot of them move through, for sure with a rifle or muzzle loader and probably even with the crossbow. We moved out here about six years ago, and I've killed a few deer, but haven't gotten serious about having a good plan each Fall, this year will be different.

Spent the day ( which was very hot!) Installing tubes in my two front tires on my TroyBuilt Horse!
I had one more to do It was the rear tire on the left.Try as I may I could not get the rim off the axel ....Penitrating lube , heating it with a tourch....Wacking the heck out of it!
No Chance of it coming off the axel ! Do any of you think I may have a chance of poping the bead and installing a tube while it it is still on the tractor????

Yesterday, I called VTI and their Pedersoli order arrived, so the rolling block's firing pin is scheduled to be delivered Wednesday. There're two types, but the guy and I think it'll be the correct one. If not, he said I can return it. Cool, man.

This was my first dealings, with VTI, and I give them a three-thumbs up rating.

Once again, I ran out of projects, so cleaned and sized another 100 pieces of Lake City 5.56 brass and will get round to prepping them whenever. However, given that the range is closed till June 10, and all the upcoming test ammunition is loaded (supposed to have been fired yesterday ) and waiting for it to reopen, and all of next week's scheduled chores are the regular ones, whenever might be as soon as tomorrow.

put a couple of C-clamps on it JW.

so they have that community garden thingy i mentioned a while back.
they were having their last meeting today and i went to it.
i don't know what their end goal is, but they seem to want too many things from a simple plant and weed operation, with minimal group focus or a real direction.
i gave the one lady my phone number and told her i'd help them out with the gardening stuff, but that was as far as i was going.
the weird thing is they have 3 different places, and they had three different meetings going on even though they are all connected. [all one organization]

i looked at what they had at the place closest to me, and they had just about everything sitting right there to put a decent food plot in, and get some recycling moving forward.
they even had a 20' by about 50' high tunnel green house type building sitting there.
nothing is planted in it.
they all started yacking about some tiller someone had.
i was more interested in where the water was and if they have electricity nearby.
i looked at some of their other stuff and a lot of it was over kill and a waste of material.
but i'd have had some stuff planted in that big green house today if they seemed more interested in actually getting going rather than just planning.

i told them flat out they needed to have stuff up and going in that building already, and about what stage their early plants should be at by now.
they offered me some of the land to work and grow stuff on for free, i told them i didn't need any more i got plenty to deal with now.

i don't know, i don't need another project, but they need some serious help, the problem is i'm not sure they want to listen.

I shot a little more today . I shot Dad's 67A Winchester he bought new in 1953 and the 67 he bought about 15 years ago . What delightfully simple singles and so consistent . At 50 yd and me driving with the issue irons they aren't winning matches but cottontail would be in a lot of trouble .

This morning's main project was shuffle a bunch of clutter around in the machine shop so I could unload my mechanic tool boxes off the trailer and get them inside before the predicted storms this afternoon. Got that done and ruminated a while on where they were going to live (these are extra boxes I bought over two years ago so I wouldn't have to move my big 4-bay Matco cabinet ever again). Finally decided on a spot but that wall isn't finished, so while the trailer was hooked up I headed to town and bought the 2x6 studs to fill between the pressure-treated posts and five sheets of drywall. Got home and finished framing the wall, drilled and ran electrical wire for two more gang boxes and a switch by the outside wall that will power some flood lights on that side eventually, insulated the whole thing and then sheetrocked it. Had a snack and taped and floated all that with some reject Murco mud that is absolutely horrific to try and use (watery, gloppy, full of lumps, and feels like it has sand in it). What a mess. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow. I needed to finish the wall out so that permanent shelves could be put up above the band saw and shaper, and a board with hooks put up to hang all my chains and come-a-longs on. After I get the wall and all the stuff that goes there squared away there might be enough room to actually work on a Jeep......in the air conditioning!

Once you're retired, you'll understand. I find myself looking for stuff to do, especially when the weather outside is foul. Yesterday, I replaced the line on all my trolling reels.

Been caught up on casting and reloading for quite some time.

Always mowing/property maintenance to be done, this time of year, but dry weather is a requirement.

I am really, REALLY looking forward to the challenge of having to look for stuff to do. I like what I do for work, and it pays quite well, but it does keep me busy as all get out during the school year and even most of the Summer. Every year, I seem to find myself more and more wanting to just be able to putter around the place all day and do whatever.

One thing I will say about myself, I am almost never bored. Left to my own devices, I can keep myself entertained pretty well.

Troy-bilt Horse is a 2 wheeled tiller far as I know! I assume they stole the name for advertising purposes for a rider? Yes, you can certainly pop the bead off and stick a tube in there. That's how many of your large farm and construction tractor tires are changed. Jack it up solidly, let the air out, and start working the bead loose. Some WD40 type stuff helps sometimes. Those low pressure tires don't usually have a great deal of PSI in them. In fact, it would be okay to left the air out and run it back and forth several times in an area you can work in. Pretty good chance that will loosen the bead up. After that it's just prying the outer edge over enough to get the tube in, or if there is a good deep center drop you can sometimes push the tire back, put the tube in and work it all inside the tire. The sidewalls on those types are generally very soft and easy to work with. Of course if there's a puncture in the tube it's another story and more work.

People like to think they can do all sorts of stuff until the actual "doing" needs to get started. My bet is there will be 2-4 people who actually do anything and 35 that stand around and watch and then got brag about "their" work on social media.
