10" Bull Barrel 7-30 Waters Contender Barrel Questions

Anyone have any experience with a 7-30 Waters 10" contender barrel? Picked up a barrel quite awhile ago, just getting things together to try it out.

Will have a 2x scope mounted to it, wondering what bullets anyone has tried with any sucess. Don't currently have any 7mm molds, but have a good friend who has more than he remembers I am sure, looking for a good place to start.

I cast a bunch of Soup Cans for a friend of mine with a 7-30. Don't know if he has loaded or shot them yet.

I had a Marlin 7-30, I know not a Contender 10" but a 7-30 Waters and it was quite fond of the RCBS 145 gr, don't remember the powder or charge right now but it did quite well.

The 7-30 Waters that I wanted to buy couldn't be bought. Back about 96 I put on Commercial Row for the NRA at the NRA Long Range Championships. One of the vendors was Seth Wesson, owner of Dan Wesson arms. I put him up in my RV at the range for a week. He brought with him a prototype revolver . . . A 7-30 Waters Dan Wesson 10 inch. Lordy ya should have seen the cylinder on that thing. :D I begged him for a week to sell me that gun, told him to name his own price & I would take it. No joy though, he wasn't selling it. No idea whatever became of it, guess he still has it.

The better half generally gets a bit worried about some things. A 7-30 Waters revolver Im sure would be on that list. Not to mention eat my fun budget for a decade. Now if Khornet or Freebullet were to suggest it Id be garunteed a pass!

Would have to be the right time, right place, stars would have to be right and the tide would have to be coming in for that to work.

I have no idea how well it might "work" but dang what a toy to play with to find out.

I have one in the contender with a 23" bbl. I bought it last fall and played very lightly with the 145 and leverevolution. I needed a harder alloy than I had. For lighter loads I could not find failure with the soup can, lee copy of Lymans 135 gr rn and the RCBS 145. All shot well. I fireformed with 7 gr unique and it does well as a plinker. I found the need to sort and stick with one brand of brass in the Waters and to never use that brand in the 30-30. Your mind might work differently than mine.

I had a 12" Hunter model Contender in 7-30 Waters, so it was really about a 11" barrel with a 1" muzzle brake. Aside from the fact that T/C did a screwy job cutting the chamber on that barrel, it was a good little shooter. I took a couple antelope with it, and a mule deer. A buddy of mine wanted to get into handgun hunting and talked me out of it. As I recall, I really liked Winchester 748 in that gun.

I got both the 12" 7-30Waters and a 14" 30-30 with muzzle break both, look good for silhouette and a little deer hunting.
Which number is that Lyman soup can?? Guess it's time to break out the 30's and fire up the pot any ideas for a couple good 7mm bullets?

Yes Sir Al Nelson, I've been looking over your molds,it's just the fact I've already got a shop full of your molds, I built a storage cabinet just for your molds then out grew it in less than six months, btw did you get your site back on line?? last time I tried it your shopping cart would not work, I'm still wanting a 246HP just like the 46 gr GC I bought from you
I'm also in the market for a 22caliber HP between 40 and 60gr. I picked up a 22 Hornet this morning.
