Went out for the antlerless hunt at Desoto refuge today. Seen 12 deer & over 50 turkey. None for me though as the only- in range, adequate size, & not completely shaded through heavy brush were bucks:confused:. It started out a manageable 14 & got to almost 20f but, this afternoon it quickly started dropping to 8f with a "sporty" 30mph wind.

Since I failed today I'm headed out in the morning and they are claiming -10 or 11 will be my greeting. Better get an extra layer or two out huh. One day left to get 2 antlerless deer. Last year it wasn't under 25f, seems like I'm being tested. A lot less hunters out today, I'm betting there won't be many tomorrow.

I know I would be likely to stay home. There is cold and there is asinine. Tomorrow morning it will be asinine to be out. Well for me it will be.

Good luck FB.

We got an icey breeze blowing in, temp dropped from 81 this afternoon to upper 30s, supposed to be 36 tomorrow and teens tomorrow night. But it will be back to room temperature by Tuesday. I've been in front of a hot pot of lead most of the evening so you guys have fun out there hunting in the arctic blast.

we went from just warm enough to rain to negative something in about 3 hours.
I have been building a fire in the garage the last few nights just to keep it warm in there.
the little heater is working itself to death to keep it above 50 otherwise.

It's crazy here. Went from -18 Friday to 45 and rain this morning. Then dropping to -7 tonight. You'll be able to skate on the roads.

It was cold enough this morning to give you an ice burn!

Nope, bed was to warm. So I stayed home this morning. Went out this afternoon was a pleasant 1 degree when I left. No deers but I did have an enjoyable afternoon in the woods.

The wind yesterday is what really messed up my hunt. 30+ sustained and gusts to 40mph. Couldn't get in a tree & the tangle **** refuge isn't easy pickins from ground level. The turkey nature show I watch up close & personal made it all worth it. Definitely better than working all weekend.

I hunted one Christmas day when the temp was -12 actual and they said wind chill was -57 . Only thing seen in the woods all day ( 5 pm - 4 am ) was two squirrels , me and the gray one I saw on the way back to the house . I was about 22 - 23 at the time and a lot tougher than I am now . Got COPD and some minor heart issues so I don't sit out all day if the temp is freezing or below . Freebullet, where I hunt 30-40 mph wind equals lots of falling branches and is a good reason for me to stay in . I can stand on my porch and hear them come down and that's as close to falling timber as I want to get .

I am getting very soft in my old age. I spend about 1/3rd of my deer hunting time in a heated blind. The most deer I have seen at one time (not herded but moving together) came during a heavy rain downpour. An I wouldn't have seen it because I wouldn't have been out in the rain
