1903 Springfield

My friend Jason wanted to meet at the range this morning.
He brought his 1903 Springfield.
He asked me to shoot 5 rounds at 100 yards.
16.0 grs. 2400 with the Lyman 311290 sized to .311"

This is pushing the limits of what these old 70 yr. old eyes can still do.

Ben....!
For a guy that seldom shoots open sights....You did darn well! I'm impressed.
And by the way for an old guy ( well older then me) you are looking pretty spry!
I miss seeing you shooting now that Trevor has stollen the show!
Maybe there can be a "Grandson - Grandpa" shoot off some time soon!

Now, I only compete with myself. But if I had managed to shoot that group, I would have called it a win!
Very, very good!

I don't shoot metallic sights on a rifle very much anymore.
Add to it, this rifle still had the orig. military trigger ( not so good ).

The limits of the 1903 Springfield rifle is in the design. The committee sights were designed around 18 year old eyes, the Mauser two stage trigger is made to not fire if the rifle is dropped off a running horse, and bedding of replacement stock are notably poor.

Thanx Ric! (seen that 24 grns is trick for 45-70. Plan to try that too, and prob 22 grns in the 43 Spanish).
