1st Attempt - Ben's Red Lube

In this case, Brad's Brown Lube, lol. My logic was that the grease melts at a lot higher temp, so I melted it by itself, let it cool a little, and then added in melted beeswax. It took enough heat, well over 300°, to get it to melt, and it did smoke and turn brown. With the temp any lower, it wouldn't melt. However, it does not smell burnt. Evidentially, mixing everything together, letting the wax melt into the grease, must lower the melting temp of the grease as it mixes. Lesson learned. It'll probably be years before I need another batch though. There's a side of me that wants to throw this out and start over, but I bet it will work just fine.

Worse than the color, you violated the Prime Directive of domestic harmony! NEVER cook bullet lube in Her kitchen!

Welcome to the board, Brad, that lube will be just fine as ling as nobody mistakes it for chocolate.
She's a queen. I've used her dishwasher to clean chainsaw parts and her oven to cure paint? Yes, it did smell up this end of the house, but it was 60° yesterday and opened both the front and rear doors of the house and it blew right out the back door. I told her of all the warnings of not doing this inside, lol.

My main need is for a pan lube. I'll try and see how this works. If it doesn't melt easily enough, I'll try something else. I'm thinking I like the looks of Simple Lube. I even came up with my own recipe, lol.

Simple Lube
1.25 # Beeswax
20 tbsp Petroleum Jelly
10 tsp ATF
10 tsp 2 stroke oil

Snellerized Maxx
24 oz Beeswax
8 oz Petroleum Jelly
8 tsp ATF
8 tsp 2 stroke oil
3 tbsp STP
2 tblsp Johnson Paste Wax
1 tblsp Lanolin
1 oz grated Ivory soap?

don't upsize the simple lube recipe make it just like i posted it over there.

it makes a fine pan lube as is how is, and it's super adjustable by simply adding more wax to harden or more vaseline to soften.
you umm also skipped the lanolin part,, that's what makes it stick.

I'll never use it all, but I couldn't help myself and made another batch. It turned out PERFECT this time. I used a $10, 2-quart crock pot from Walmart. I tested it with water and it only gets up to about 205°. I got the grease warmed up a little and dumped in everything else, including all of the wax. I used beeswax pellets this time to increase the surface area. I mixed it up best I could then put the lid on it and let it heat up. Before long, it had all melted together ENTIRELY. Better yet, there isn't a single thing in it to filter out. It is perfectly smooth. I poured it through a strainer like last time and caught nothing at all. If you have lumps, you've likely burnt some of the grease. Using a crock pot eliminates that possibility. I couldn't be happier with my success this time. Ohh..........very little smell at all! Seriously. No flame and temps never above 175° makes for a very low smell and perfectly smooth lube! Yes, my wife is an angel. We celebrate our 33rd anniversary tomorrow :)

That looks soo much better.
And don't feel bad about the other batch, most all of us who have cooked up some DIY bullet lube, have scorched a batch, or scorched ourselves, or had some other unfortunate incident...Fire, did someone say fire? yeah, I "lit" up a batch of SL68B once...or was it twice?
