1st Attempt - Ben's Red Lube

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I used a bottom pour for right at 50 years before trying a ladle... I see value in both methods, I'm simply not as experienced with a ladle.
Having a larger opening/larger pot would make dipping much better, I think.

I tried the "hold the mold sideways, place the ladle against the sprue plate and rotate it to allow the metal to enter the mold" technique. I also tried just holding the mold and pouring.... I agree with you that molds are different, and will likely require different techniques. I am in the process of looking for a pot and an open hot plate. I want to give dipping another shot... I'm not giving up the bottom pour just yet, though... :)
Keep yer eyeball peeled for a large stainless measuring cup. I think mine is 8 cups, maybe 10. Lucked onto it at an old hardware store. It's one heavy mother when it's near full of alloy!

That "rotate the ladle and mould together" thing never worked for me. Darn sure it won't work with a 10 cav H+G!!!

nope but it works good on 1 and 2 cavity molds.
i use a LEE 10 LB. pot to pressure pour a few of my older no vent line type molds, it's also used to make round balls but as a bottom pour for them.
i ladle pour bigger molds for the most part [anything close to or over 400grs.] and to make cores for my jacketed bullets.

I think that's why the behemoth H&Gs have a trough .
Another 10-15# and I'll be done with the 130 for a while.......I hope .

I found some "frothing pitchers" online... the 48 oz sounds like a good size to start out.... 6 cups. It looks like it is not quite double the size of my Lee pot.
