For those who shoot the .250 Sav. with cast boolits, what are your favorite powders and boolits.

My favorite, and only .25 bullet I cast now days, is the RCBS CM plain base bullet. My 1920 Savage has a peep sight, so a couple of fast powders work well for plinkers.

My interest is shooting for accuracy with the. 250 Savage
The rifle I currently am using is a Savage mdl 16 bolt gun with a 1/10" twist .
Most of my shooting down through the years has been with Remington 700's in this caliber. using 100g boolits. I do have the RCBS 25-85 CM mould, but my experiments with 8g of Red Dot was not successful. Any suggestions?

I believe Bill Anderson is shooting a .250 Savage in CBA Hunter class. You might check the match results on the CBA website to see what load he is using. I have a Savage 99 in .250 Savage, but is is strictly my hunting rifle with jacketed bullets. The best load for it uses H380 powder.

I've yet to attain any accuracy with the plain-based RCBS #25-85-CM past about 1400 FPS. That's using 2 rifles in 25/20 WCF and a Savage 99 in 250 Savage, Keep that one sub-sonic, and it can be a quiet little TACKDRIVER, and far more decisive on rats & vermin than any 22 LR. .

You should get a good plinking load between 4.0 and 5.5 grains of Red Dot with a standard LR primer. My old Savage has a 1/14 twist, so that may have to be factored in.

My buddy shoots .250 savage a lot on the target range...He shoots "Low Node" like me! Some pretty tight groups!
If you are interested I can get his load data off him ( most are subsonic)

I'm trying to achieve groups consistently in the less than 1.5" area at 100 yds in CBA competition. I suspect that 100 to 120g boolits with a 1:10" twist would be better than lighter boolits. I have shot many nice groups of 4 shots in less than an inch, but then the 5 shot group often will contain a flier. I think that as I age, the "nut behind the trigger " has started to loosen!

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Boy, finding a good, longer 25 might be a chore. I haven't done much with cast in my 250 Ruger. Cramer made some gorgeous heavier 25's, but they are hard to find.

The 260-120 FP NOE is working in Dad's 25-06' , I'm yet to try it in his 257 Roberts .

The 25-06 I suspect is a 1-12" . If you can stay on the target up to 100 gr BTSP it's in a lot of trouble as far as you want to shoot . 115s make it an honest 3200 fps MOA to 400 yd , it was never papered further than that . 120s in Speer , Nos , and Sierra just didn't live up to the standards set by the lighter bullets moving out to a 2-2.5 MOA limits of desirable hunting loads . 700 BDL Varmint Special , 24" barrel .890 at the muzzle .
