30-30 Plinker loads ( in volume )

My grandson Trevor has been shooting what I call " plinker loads "
in our many 30-30's. Cheap on alloy, cheap on powder, easy on the ears and shoulder.
I've used the Lyman 311008 with great success.

I'm having to try to keep up with him with a single cav. mould. Not an easy task. Before I bite the bullet and buy a 5 cav. copy of the 311008 , I want to try the bullet that you see in the photos below.

I looked through my many moulds and found an NOE that I purchased
about 6 yrs. ago. It is a 5 cav. originally intended for my T/C , 32 H&R Mag / 32 S&W Long. It was a super accurate bullet out of my T/C single shot.

It drops at around .3125", so sizing to .311 and .310 for our 30-30 rifles is a breeze.
I'm anxious to see if this bullet will shoot accurately out of the 30-30's.

About 25 minutes of casting with this 5 cavity will certainly produce more bullets than my single cavity 311008 mould :

This RCBS clone , 103 gr., isn't identical to the 311008, but it may be close enough that I'm able to avoid spending another $100 on a mould.

I hope so.

It wouldn’t surprise me if you found a good load with it. You tend to do :)

I’m soon starting with the 30-30 myself. My brother has a Marlin 336 carabine with micro groove rifling. It has been shot very little. It is practically begging for an accurate, cast bullet plinker load :)
Just waiting for a die set to arrive. I’m looking forward to it, it should be fun.

Clone of the RCBS 98 grain (in Lino) originally for the H&R Maggie. Excellent plinker in my 7.62 X 39 bolt gun.

313226 ..... nevermind that's a Lyman . It's supposed to be for a 32 pistol also , 97 gr , .313 in WW . It's great in 30-30 .

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Gee, I can't think of any reason that wouldn't work. I bet you find a load for it easily.

Something like 3.8 grains of Titegroup and what ever large pistol primers are cheap...

Nice Ben They are fun to shoot!
Hey What ever happened to that nice 30-30 Rem 788 you got ? You never mention Trevor shooting that one!

I think VERY highly of the work done by the RCBS #32-98-SWC in 32 S&W Long and 32 H&R Magnum. I am not terribly imaginative though--I have never tried these in a 30 caliber rifle, or in a 32/20 WCF levergun either. I have tried the Lee Soup Can in 30/30 and 30-06, and that was fun.

Since this one is plain base, I try to keep it in the 1,100 fps speed zone in the 30-30 Win.

Ben,
Would you say that they shoot better then the little Lee 90 gr SWC? I would be interested.
Those 90's shoot well for me in my 340 with 3 gr BE ....but I never got them to shoot well in my Marlin 336

I shoot that bullet with around 3.8 - 4.0 grains Bullseye in my 308 Marlin for around 1050 fps. Does very well. Better at distance than my 313492 wadcutter past around 60 yards, but the wadcutter is safer for tree squirrel shooting.

This one is the better plinker bullet, certainly.

I have shot that with 2.5 gr of BE out of the 14" contender. IIRC, I got that from your shooting the wc out of the contender. I have never tried them out of the 94.
