Have ya watched Federals advertising? They are absolutely targeting, naïve new shooters new shooters...

Not impressed. Might have merit if can make major power in or as a competition pistol caliber where a couple extra rounds make or break rankings. But billed as a defensive caliber BECAUSE of round count... MEH...

I predict this will have a just as solid a market presence as the 9mm Federal, 45 GAP, 41 Detonics, 38 Casull, etc. It's a 32-20 in an autoloader. They can magnumize it and stretch the case to 1.290 inches, gain some speed and duplicate the 30 Carbine, only with a .312 bullet!

I think new cartridges are cool. My gun safe is full of them. Since 2001, new to me, 300 WSM, 17M2, 10mm, 40S&W, 17 Fireball, 223, 8mm, 6.5 Creedmoor, 450 Bushmaster, 350 Legend, 45-70, 338 Win mag, 44 Mag Rifle, 204 Ruger. Anybody else still shooting just their 30-06, 38 special and 45 acp? (Well, I don’t own a 30-06 and never have, guess I should buy one…)

I think the first comment in the ad says it all. It's just another way to drive sales. Everyone wants that new "thing" so they have bragging rights. An additional 2 rounds in a mag is zero value unless you are law enforcement and plan to be in an extended shootout. If you need more than 2 rounds in a self-defense scenario, you need to make some serious lifestyle changes or move to a better neighborhood.

If this round can make "major" in ISPC (I don't remember the spec anymore) then it might generate a bunch of racegun orders for the custom builders. But then again, if you cannot buy brass, primers or powder...

I agree BB. I also like new stuff. My reservations are to what I find somewhat insulting ads Federal has on Utube.
Pushing nonsense, playing to ignorant new shooters.
(Ignorance is easily fixed not written as an insult)

This is the "new" tact or I have reached the age that I see it different now I am mot sure.

If it seeks, it sells. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

The manufacturers can make anything they want. It is up to me, the consumer, to determine if it warrants spending my money.

To me this is like the concept of “gouging” on components and ammo. In a free market you can only get screwed if you are an active participant.

A fool and his money are soon parted.

I can’t see how anyone who owns a 32 acp, or any of the 32 caliber revolvers wouldn’t be a little excited about this new “high power” round with a .312” bullet.

As far as marketing goes, this cartridge is definitely being focused at the female market. Slimmer grips, same KE as the .380, same penetration as the 9mm, and being introduced in the M&P Shield EZ pistol.

I like my Beretta 81 in 32 acp, it holds 12. I also like my M&P Shield in 40 S&W, it holds 7 rounds. The arguments over the 32 acp’s effectiveness as a self defense round, and the appropriateness of chambering a fat round like the 40 S&W in a subcompact pistol will still be with us long after I have left this plane of existence. An M&P Shield with 12 “more effective” rounds doesn’t sound bad to me.

Now will I buy one as soon as they hit the stores. Nope I’m cheap. But if brass is readily available in seven years, and I was offered a good deal on one of these pistols I might just pick it up.

Yeah, I’m with you Josh. I’m not running out and buying one next week or even next year. The only new whiz bang cartridge I bought fairly quickly was the 300 WSM. I lost interest in shooting after my best friend/shooting partner/FIL passed away for a couple of years. Just didn’t care about it anymore. The WSM’s came out and sparked an interest. FIL would have have liked them, I didn’t have a 30 cal anything so I made up my mind to buy one.

Never intended to buy a 6.5 Creedmoor, never! Used CZ 557 American Synthetic had my eye and I kept picking it up every time I went the gun shop for a month. Happened to be in 6.5 Creedmoor so I wasn’t going to buy it. Finally couldn’t resist the rifle and took it home. Love it now, very accurate and a joy to shoot! Most (not all) of my guns have similar stories, not bought for the cartridge but for the gun.

30 SC could be a carry gun for my daughter or wife, or it could be one I just have to have one day and that will be it. I won’t be marketed into buying one or discouraged from it because it’s too small, there’s no need, this old cartridge does the same thing only better, on and on and on.

I am a firm believer that you can have enough guns but you can’t have too many, you can have enough ammo but you can’t have too much, when hunting there is no such thing as too dead, I’d better stop there… :)

I have 1 cartridge under 30 yr old and 2 under 40 ........ Maybe 3 . Depressing as it may be both the 308 and 223 are pushing 70 and it wasn't that long ago that the 45 ACP and 06' had their Centennials ........ Hell Dad's 25-06' is 50 this year ......

I tend to be a bit of a caveman, myself. Carry gun is a .38 Mod 60, .38 Texas derringer or a .380 PPKS. All my other pistols are either .38/.357, 22LR or ..45 ACP/LC. Do have a .22 mag cylinder for my Single Six.

I'm not against new stuff. I just never bought into new stuff for the sake of new stuff. I don't remember any new rifle cartridges being created without a truly justified objective, proprietary designs aside. All the wildcats were intended to be an improvement. This round is just a skinnier and tad longer 9mm. Got tiny hands? Get a single stack pistol.

I remember when double stack Govt model frames came out. Guys were showing up at pin shoot with them. I would always chuckle. There are 5 pins on the table. If you do your job, you only need five rounds. ;)

By all means, if it appeals to you, go for it! I suppose it's just old age creeping up on me, but I've seen probably 40- 50 cartridges introduced that were supposed to change the world and maybe 10 of them are still in production. You can only reinvent the wheel so many times!

I don't mean to just grouse about stuff, but I'm going to do it anyway....

If they can't keep up with production supporting extant chamberings, and then whine on videos about being tired of hearing that they're intentionally holding back, how does jumping off on a new venture like this make any sense - in any way at all?

If someone will buy all the 9mm (5.56, 308, whatever) you can make, and at a inflated price, and you can't make enough 9mm (or whatever) to keep up, WHY would you divert resources to something NO ONE knows there will be any demand for at all?

Making nothing BUT 9mm, 5.56, 308, etc. annoys me to no end, but I get THAT - it makes sense. Sell what people are buying. I obviously don't buy enough 357 Max brass or 7x57 brass to warrant production attention right now. I don't really like it , but I understand it.

THIS makes no sense to me at all.

Branding Jeff, Branding.

They want their name on a cartridge. They want to become the hot new thing. Anyone can make 223 ammo but how many will make ammo for this new cartridge?
