308 subsonic medium bore....??

I'm in the process of putting together an Omark 44 .308 target rifle to shoot at 50m smallbore targets, with my 200gn subsonic cast bullets. I'm basically going to shoot the ISSF 50m prone match but with a "medium" bore rifle. Let's see if I can eventually beat my smallbore best of 587!
Wish me luck!

good luck.
your gonna be riding the edge.

I will suggest you look at some of the faster pistol powders such as clay's, 700-X, and tite-group, to spit the bullet out more consistently with lower velocity spreads.

I have a variety of fast pistol powders, and have been shooting subsonics for about 10yrs, particularly in 308. I have had a full can of Trailboss, for about 3 yrs, but never tried it. I think the 12 twist Omark should do very well, with the 200gn CBE bullet, and maybe 8gns of Trailboss....but I doubt Trailboss will shoot the best groups. I'm thinking more like 8gns of AR2205 (4227) will be the group winner, but we will see....

Somewhere around seven grains of Titegroup might be something to try also. Even in the .308 case at low density it is virtually insensitive to position in the case.

Cant seem to find much info on Titegroup, here in Australia. What would it be equivalent to?

I would be tempted to say there isn’t one really. It is less a burn speed thing than powder position insensitivity.

correction 50 not 30.
30 is titewad not titegroup
50 is the one closest to titegroup.
I hate it when they name stuff the same.
however 30 would put the pressure up a titch higher and burn clean like our titegroup.
titewad has to be pushed to some over 11-12K to get it to burn clean,,, not a problem here.
