350 Rem Mag in Rem 700 Classic

Any feedback on the 350 Rem Mag? Cast shooter? I have a BLR Lightweight in 358 Win and love it! This one is supposed to have a Leupold scope and is a Rem 700 Classic. I wouldn't shoot full power loads in it (rebuilt shoulder wouldn't stand it!). But cast and lighter loads might be fun. TIA

My older brother had an original 1969 700 BDL that he bought new, his only centerfire rifle, and finally sold it when he turned 75. I reloaded for it for 40 years mostly with 158 grain 357 jacketed bullets. He may have shot two boxes of factory ammo through it, and a couple of hundred of my loads.

And I have a friend who has made two trip to Africa and that was his plains and light rifle. He swears by his with the 220 grain Hornady out to 300 yards.

I found it easy to load for and you can use 35 Whelen data. FWIW

it's 2.170 which is a half inch shorter than the 7mm and 30 win. magnums.
they have the same headspace and diameter above the belt so you can make them easy enough from those or some of the Weatherby cases.

it's just kind of an odd way around to go through all the bother to try and get 35 Whelen ballistics from a short action.
[especially when coupled with a shorter barrel like the 600 had, which pretty much put it right back to being a louder version of the 358 win.]

One of the first 35's I was gonna build was a 350 mag. Going thru everything needed and needed done I decided on the 35 Whelen. Largely cause I wanted a 98 Mauser and if I was gonna carry a longer action. I might as well take advantage. Olus feeding and latering to feed a short fat belted case was a challenge.
IMHO looking at bigger picture, the Whelen is slightly superior. But the 350 is nonslouch and does bring big power. Ironically for the caliber to achieve its better in a longer action.

Maybe I'm still in the morning haze . But a 9×284 Win would actually match the the 350 Maybe even better it without a belt or a mag bolt face . No?

it'd match the Whelen for sure when you look at the case volume.
it's like the X54R necked up which is a fairly popular conversion in the far dark northern climates.

That Alexander Arms AR10 based rimless 45-70 is a blown straight 284 although they claim it to be .01 bigger at the base and sell the correct tool for the owner to chuck up and turn the .473 rim . There's a couple of the 45 and all of the 50 AR cartridges that use it too as a base even when turned to 223 rims . Nobody makes 284 basic ......
