Yes, different alloys will give different diameters, but the difference in diameter is across all the bands, so that front band will always be smaller than the other bands.Whats your alloy/composition? Diff alloys can give slight differences in diameter from same mold.
Also Powder coating can up diameters nicely.

Then I agree and its how it was designed.... But also mentioned Powder Coat will make all the same if thats what you desire.Yes, different alloys will give different diameters, but the difference in diameter is across all the bands, so that front band will always be smaller than the other bands.

I have read that Keith had some nasty things to say about Lyman taking it upon themselves to change his design.Being a production company, Lyman/Ideal kept reducing the front band diameter and width to accommodate the smallest cylinders expected to be seen from production revolvers (much to Keith's dismay).
As well as being a much better made mold. There came a time when Keith told his readers to buy from Hensley and Gibbs, as they remained true to his design.
A very good point ! ! !We don't have to settle for mediocrity these days. We can get exactly what we want now.
Not everyone is going to agree with that.................Maybe the 357446 is just a crappy mold
There are different 357446s, like most Lyman designs. Everytime I think I have them all represented, I find a different one. My favorite one so far is a late Lyman version with a full diameter, heavy driving band like the original Keith design. Some of the FTDBs are really puny, and I don't even cast with those designs.Alloy is about 1-2% Sn and 1% Sb what worries me is the 357446 I have is like this one with a small front band and it shoots patterns NOT groups I hope this one would be better but maybe it will be its longer.
Maybe the 357446 is just a crappy mold.
