..For that matter, I've read and re-read a article titled, "452423, I Love You!" many, many times. I don't "worship" the author, but I think he's a pretty good writer! ;)...

I read that article also. Not bad, as a matter of fact that article got me interested in buying a mold for that bullet. Ended up with a custom 6 cavity solid in a repeat of a group buy on some other forum. At that time, I did not have a 1911 so all those bullets were shot through variety of S&W ACP revolvers. It is a solid performer. I prefer a full WC bullet but the SWC has some longer range benefits.

The #452423 is among the new/new-to-me moulds in queue for my winter entertainment. Summer can't make its mind up whether to stay or go, we get 2-3 days of 80*+ then today it didn't make 65*. THAT is casting weather.

For those successful in using the '423 in the bottom-feeder 45 ACPs, what sort of OAL are you loading at? I want to try these in my Gold Cup and P-220. TIA!

Written, very well written IMO, by our own Charles Graff!

Allen ignore the crimp groove and set it like a normal swc.
which to me means go all the way to the front of the drive band, some others do the fingernail showing thingy, but I ain't one of them.
1.1ish? should be about where you end up.

After hearing guys go on and on about how barrel throating cured most cast bullet feeding issues in the 1911 pistol, I sent the barrel out of one of my Colts to DougGuy for his magic. With the barrel throating any round that will feed through the magazine will feed like hot butter. This enabled me to seat 453423 out. The longer OAL length works wonders, the rounds are now 100% reliable. The dent on the meplat is now much, much smaller which is the reason for reliable feeding. I have since throated my other Colt and my Ruger LW Commander. The throating renders the plunk test useless. If the case length is in spec, taper crimped and the round does not bind in the magazine, it will run.

My HP's are loaded to an OAL of 1.165", and feed just fine in my Gold Cup.

About 1968 I bought Bill's old house with one owner between us. /some of the pics in his book "No Second Place Winners" were taken at that place. The garage, where Bill practiced had tens of thousands wax bullet strikes on every wall and the ceiling. There were some places where the dry wall had big holes in it and the brick was plastered with wax. He did miss a mite. A little known fact is that Bill shot and killed another Border Patrol Agent when he was demonstrating his fast draw and the round went through a wall and hit the guy in the adjoining room. This happened in Arizona.
Didn't know that.

Nor did I. That would be an awful memory to live with. THAT is why I never taught or engaged in "quick-draw" nonsense with firearms. Just draw and fire normally. If the need for speed arises, reflexes will kick in to speed things along.

Yes, it really tore him up. I doubt he intended to pull the trigger, after pulling the trigger a couple of million times, things just go on autopilot.
