45 acp taper crimp

Finally got a photo of a 15° taper crimp die I made.
The first die I made, and used for most shooting until now, was less than 15°. Not sure what I soused but closer to 5-7° I would estimate.
You can easily see how rapid a taper a 15° per side taper is. Compared to my Hornady taper crimp die it is way faster. The Hornady taper is hard to even perceive as a taper.
You can also see that this taper crimp borders on a roll crimp. This is a .468 crimp at the case mouth but the full diameter section of the bullet is not changed in dimensions to all.

Excellent. That is what I have found to give the most reliable feeding in .45 ACP. You need to
let Khornet try some of that in his gun, with both types of mags, too.
Back in IPSC competition, when accy was not a critical factor, and reliability WAS, I ran about
.465 to.466 TC routinely with commercial cast H&G 68 clones.

One will be heading to Khornet this week.
I will likely keep using what I have been using because it works. Wish I could recall what the taper on it was.

To determine the angle on the first die I made.

Ah, OK. I was thinking of THIS die, and you already knew and said what angle you had made.

Yep, if you are like me in 6 weeks you'll be saying, "Now what angle did I use on this one?"

On the thread on the Lee 230 truncated cone, the owner is reporting he is "taper crimpin" it down
to .472", which I think is still a .002 flare, no crimp at all, as I see it. Unless his cases are larger than mine
in OD. Mine always show right at .470.

I certainly have no issues with a fellow who wants to make or modify his reloading dies and stuff. I have been known to do it myself. However I find factory (RCBS and Lyman) 45 ACP taper crimp dies do the job for me. They are easy to adjust for the proper taper crimp.

1. Place a factory (commercial or military) loaded round in the press shell holder and run the ram full up.
2. Turn the TC die down on the round until it is hand tight. No tools please.
3. Turn down the die lock ring and there you have .
