45 Colt

Finally took the time to chronograph the 45 Colt load I am shooting in the Mod 25. I am using 6 gr of Promo under the NOE 454424 sized .453 and powder coated.

Chronograph says 920 FPS from a 6.5” barrel, Quickload says it should be 930 FPS. I think I can live with that estimate as being close enough. Pressure is only around 13 K PSI so quite safe.

Oh, the load shoots as well as I can hold and doesn’t lead. What more can I ask?

FWIW, I got a little cleaner brass and better groups with 6.5 gr. Glad that's working for you.
Edit, that was in a blackhawk, pressures still are mild enough for a 25.

I really like the load. I don’t need much more velocity than that. Recoil isn’t bad but you do know the trigger was pulled.

Knowing "the trigger was pulled" is certainly going to be true of any handgun launching 250 grains at near 1K fps.

And anything it hits will stay hit. Very hit.

I don’t see a need for more anymore.

I am a great believer in any bullet of a decimal diameter starting with .4 and having a nice flat-fronted aspect to it while impacting at between 900 and 1000 FPS. I have long envied Anaheim PD's authorization of the S&W Model 25-5 for service usage. SFO PD's use of the 41 Magnum lead-bullet load was a great idea as well--210 grains at 950 FPS will sort the wheat from the chaff in short order.
