I don't have a single action 45 Colt (that's probably sacrilegious) but I do shoot one of S&W model 625 Mountain Guns with the 4-inch barrels. It gets the RCBS 45-270-SAA which cast about 285 grains for me over some HS6 for around 950 fps. I'm not sure this would be my final choice for an only one but it would be near the top of the list.

7.5 RBH . I load it with a 454424 or NOE version or the 452-255 @265 gr with 9.5 gr of old Unique for 1050 fps into 6 shot groups with one that wanders a little for groups of about 5" at 50 yd , a number I can live with .
The load does about 1275 in the Carbine . I have a custom 350 gr I loaded with a totally of the books load that had nearly a 600 fps split between the pistol and carbine . I don't expect 650 fps MV at 350 gr is a thing I want to be in front of especially . It goes 1280 in the 16" carb but that stupid 1-32 twist isn't enough .

Well I can tell you this...

That pistol I mentioned was engraved. Top strap and back strap. (Thats why the bisley model was chosen) The engraver spelled
My name wrong on the back strap. So it was seapped and done properly. Then the top strap was also spelled wrong... Well for that they milled off the top strap!! Then re engraved but ran out of room. That last few letters kerning is noticeably off to fit. The dumb arse used same "start" but had an additional letter to make fit. Obviously a junior engravor. I spoke with Doug a number of times about it before accepting. In the end I took it from his partner because he wouldnt speak on it any longer. It was our leagues last dealings with US Pat Firearms.

The award was the Metropolitan Pistol & Revolver League of Hartford Connecticut. Its there highest and most prestigious award.
This club is also our nations longest continually running Bullseye/ firearms organization.

I had a real run of bad luck with .45 Colt revolvers. Finally have 2 that are staying here. An Uberti Frisco 5.5" that I later had a .45 acp cylinder fitted to and a firstrun Accusport 5.5" stainless Bisley that had the cylinder mouths uniformed and an action job. Both are good shooters.

I am thinking about filing the sights on the Uberti to be dead on with my .45 acp load and letting it stay that way.

Dang CW.
I hope the pistol at least shoots good.
To say the truth.... I have only shot once. Its traditional and the front site is completely unfinished. Just a square piece of steel. Ready to be filed to my loading.

So I have shot it one time. Its only really a value to me so I should just shoot and enjoy it. I have a gavel also presented to me that I cannise as a name sake.

The 45 Colt has allot going go it. There is the history, panache plus it is an accurate and useful revolver round. The downside is the wide variety of handguns made for it that have dimensions all over the place. I had advanced notice when Lipsey placed an order with Ruger for the 45 Convertible Flattop SA and got one of the first 500 delivered. It is the Best Ruger SA I have every held in my hand. I did change out the hammer, rear sight blade and grips. This is the 45 Colt done right! Click on it.

I've got a total of 6 .45 Colt guns:
1. Blue Bisley
2. Blue Bisley
3. SST Bisley
4. Clement SST 6 shot from .44 Mag.
5. Huntington 5 Shot from New Mod. Blk Hawk(Reshaped Grip Frame)
6. FA 83 w/.45 Colt extra cylinder

Sorry for the obvious bragging. I don't shoot all of them very often. Got old before I got good.
Shoot nothing but cast, mostly the .45-270 SAA. Occasionally, I will load some 300 gr WFN from an Applegate mold.
Usual powders are Unique or HS6. The Unique loads come from an old Taffin article on reduced loads.

Have only one SA revolver. Just so happens it's chambered in 45 Colt. Cindy's hunting handgun. She's taken a Michigan buck and a doe with it.

DSCN1747.JPG

For years, only had one bullet mold. The RCBS 250 SWC PB. Since then, I've added MP clone of the RCBS SSA with HP pins. I size to .454 diameter, since that is what is a slip fit in the unaltered cylinder. Mostly, get a steady diet of 2400 powder with Ruger Only loads.

This revolver is a early 80's vintage. Friend of mine was a FFl holder, at the time, and got a deal on three of them. Asked me if I wanted one for $160 OTD. Cindy needed a handgun for Michigan's shotgun zone, when they started allowing straight walled revolver cartridges..........so I purchased one. She didn't care much for the recoil of a 12 gauge 1100 slug gun.

Myself, is not a fan of SA revolvers, only other one I have is the ROA. Much prefer DA revolvers, as well as DAO semi automatics.

I also appreciate the 45 Colt I have five long guns so chambered. A "number" of handguns to go with them. :):p
