Do you know of anyone selling either flavor.
Did not keep track of inventory and now am coming up short.

Do one and eight powders come in both one and eight pounders?

4895 is another one of those powders I never used much. Got 8 pounds of surplus 4895 long ago. Most ended up getting used in the 45-70. My shoulder is glad it is gone.

Never shot anything else in My Garand.

Until Varget came along, A new good powder. But the 20+lbs of 4895 will probably last a good loong time.

Powder Valley shows them in stock until you click on the 8 pounder and then it shows
as "not in stock no back order"

I still use a bunch of it.... one of my fav powders in a lot of the mil surps. mostly used with j-words, but looking at using it with some g/c'd cast. Over here in the PNW, can still get a lot of it at BiMart.

Good rifle stuff, not sexy but it gives good accuracy with reduced cast loads and isn’t bad for standard or near standard loads in everything else. I’ve always thought of it as Unique for rifles. I wouldn’t want to, but could survive with 4895 and Unique.

The fact that it is not available gives you some idea how useful it is..
I shot right at 30# of it through a Stainless Ruger M77 in 223.
I was surprised how little throat erosion it caused.
It is the got to powder for M1 Garand shooters.

I tried it when I first got my .308W. That and then 4064....I was disappointed with both, accuracy was just ok. I ended up with ball powders, (WW748) and never looked back. I use jacketed 150 and165 gr. bullets exclusively, and get very good accuracy and velocities. I have read all the stuff about temperature sensitivity and such and have never seen it. Lots of whitetail have fallen with 47gr. of 748 behind a Hornady 150 spire point, and I hope more than a few others will in the future too. I have an unopened 8lb. of the stuff and use it in .308W, 223R/5.56, 7x30Waters and couldn't be happier.

Used it in 30/30 till LeverE came out, goto for cast in 308W. Some Autocomp and varget left for the real stringent jacketed stuff.
N135 is available.

I could never get acceptable Garand and 03A3 accuracy with IMR 4895 and 165-grain jacketed bullets. The Garand finally settled on Accurate 4064, and IMR 4831is the 03A3's favorite. But, early Ruger American Rifle .223 testing has favored IMR 4895.

Unless a fellow has a tricked out Garand, accuracy is always a relevant thing. They are what they are i.e. battle rifles. A good O3A3 will deliver better accuracy but it still a battle rifle. For general loading for these rifles I used 4895 to clone the M1 and M2 USGI ammo and enjoy the history. I have killed lots of Nazis and Japs in my mind with these rifles. When hunting for accuracy in these rifles are my flavor of the day, I go with cast bullets and enjoy the chase.

For many years IMR 4895 and my Garand were very good friends, however I wanted to see if another powder provided a noticeable increase in accuracy. I had read many articles that mentioned IMR 4064 as being an excellent Garand powder, but it was never available locally. On a visit to Washington state I found a gun store that had a solo pound of Accurate 4064, bought it and contacted Accurate for their Garand load recommendations.

Neither rifle is tricked out, other than a well qualified gunsmith touched up the Garand's trigger, and I installed a Timney in the 03A3. I've no intention of shooting cast bullets in the Garand.
