500 Yard .308 cast sub 2 MOA @ 2605fps

So my brother and I went out shooting this morning testing more high velocity cast .308 bullets.
I had some mixed results. Some of the 30 XCB bullets @ 2530 did okay until the barrel got hot then the shots started to wander.
These were 166gr bullets sized to .311" and lubed with 2500+ and a coat of BLL. These were loaded with 46.5gr H414 @ 2530fps

The second attempt was 47.5gr at 2605fps and I was able to get a sub 2 MOA five shot group.

Looks like 5 into about 1.5 moa to me, outstanding shooting and handloading. Keeping it together at extended range is what separates good shooters and loads from the rest.

Barrel heat is bad for cast bullets. The alloy actually starts reaching the melting point at the engagement points when near the muzzle once the barrel gets too hot to hold your hand on.

Haven’t watched the video yet, but will later. You can tell that’s dang good cast shooting just looking at the pic though.

Hope that load holds up for you.... that’s smoking for cast shooting!

Nicely done Waco.

I hear ya on barrel heat. Some of my loads will get a barrel dang hot in 3 rounds.Cast can "prove" a hunting barrel pretty dang quick with loads up halfway+ std,JB, handload tables.

Funny thing. I did a 10 shot Satterlee ladder test to pick my powder charges. I loaded up 20 rounds of each and went right to 500 yards. I haven't even shot these at 100 yet.

Dam fine shooting there Waco....pretty gratifying to make a change and see the hit eh? I'm impressed with the authority that round has on the plate. What I noticed was a smoke trail on the first series of shots, but when you went up a grain they disappeared....atmospheric changes in air density or lube?
