Title above + 135 g CB,24" barreled R700.

Have looked in my 1/2 dz books, been to Hogden site, and lots of net digging. There dosen't seem to be a concensous on starting loads with IMR4350?

Have seen start ranges from 40.0 to 45.0 ,with velocities all over the place as well.I cast up some dang near lino 135's and am sitting on a good supply of the above powder. I'd like 2400-2500 fps. Any insight would be appreciated.

I would think you could just about fill the case to the bottom of the bullet or even compress it a bit and not have to worry about pressures.
I have never loaded for this cartridge. I'm sure someone with better insight will chime in soon.

Kept digging.... 38.5-48 seems to be the range. The lower end was the problem. Gonna go with 40g and break out the chrono.

I know I’m the 308 you can’t put enough 4350 under a 150 grain bullet to over pressure it.

My 2500fps loads have powder all the way up in the neck after tamping it down.

Heavy loads of Varget and 4350 with 139's(7-08) are very well represented,in loading tables and interweeb accuracy loads. With about equal preference.

What was missing, besides the usual,"start low and work up" comments was,the actual start data.Apparently,308 is where 4350's start to get overshadowed by other powders.

OK,37g of Varget with Lee 285-130R .010" off jam is deadly accurate in my SPS 7-08. It's headed back to the gaming fields with a whole new outlook on things.

Am now looking for the perfect small, higher mag scope.Like a 4 1/2-14X40.... maybe silver? To replace 4-12 that's been the test scope.

I run a similar scope on my Bergara,, but it's made by Vortex.

nice clear glass in a slightly lower magnification can make a huge difference.

I'm saving the ole lunch money..... this is an easy sized scope to get. Lots of choices. Also will watch the classified ads on some of the forums.... have had good luck buying scopes on them, several occasions.

Found a cpl good deals on scopes but nothing "lusty" enough to get the screwdriver warmed up taking the present 4-12 off.

I know their warranty issues have been in question over the years...... (using Vortex and Luepold as a metric sets the bar, about as high as it gets)..... but,I would consider a Zeiss 3-9X42 Diavari for the "fly swatter" 7-08..... formerly known as the EDC.It's got swagger, and at least comes close to what this rig started life as.

Oh,the new EDC,by default is the slow twist CZ 223Lux..."no scope".
