I don’t shoot my Centerfires nearly as much as i use to, But i stil Enjoy it when i do! This is my little .308 Win, Rem Model 700, 26” Varmint/Bull Barrel, ALL Stock, Except the Trigger. The Trigger in this Rifle is a Bix’N Andy Ball Bearing Trigger, I have 2 of these Triggers Now, I ABSOLUTELY SWEAR by them! These are my Handloads, 165 Grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullet, Hodgdon Varget Powder, Bullet Jump .030-.035 off the Lands.

I ended up pulling this Scope and Putting a Different one on, I plan to Stretch this little Gun out well Beyond a 1,000 This Spring/Summer. I have 2 More Loads Developed That REALLY get with it. If You look, you can see the Bullet “Vapor Trail” pretty Good

The member here "Waco" can speak volumes with you on this and his video's are top flight. I'll look up some of his links in a little while. He'll no doubt be checking in also, probably busy for the holiday.

A few more but there are many, most with excellent video's. The 30 xcb "might" be the bullet your looking for.

This is the NOE XCB- bullet. It shoots well in my .308, and my 30-06 rifles

Arsenal Moulds HVTH-1 is another bullet I have had good results with. It has limited lube capacity, but it seems to be enough? Both lube grooves are safely tucked within the neck of the .308 while loaded to jam length

The MP 311-180 must be the best invention since sliced bread. It shoots very well in all my rifles. You can buy a solid mould, or a mould with the option of casting HP- bullets. The HP on this bullet is rather small, adapted to medium-sized game (never hunted with it, but it should be a splendid deer bullet)

You're also not much of a jump to a 301618 in 172 or 212 gr variations . It's a paper patched NRA 1000 yd bullet , originally made by Lyman , recently covered by NOE . My very limited work in a 308 that has steadfastly refused to shoot anything of any shape over 175 gr showed great promise even in an expandable alloy . Of course I'm happy with an honest 1.5" at 100 in a $200 rifle with a bullet tuned toward clean harvest of 35-800# game more than tea cups at a mile .

I said my piece on the .308 Winchester here, also links to some of Walter's (WACO) videos. Most of my work is done in an AR but also have two bolters and an M1A. It all works the same.

Nice shooting! My .308 is a stock Rem. 700 with a 22” tube. It wears a 10x Leupold. For jacketed stuff I load 175gr SMK over IMR4064
I’ve taken it out to 1250 yards.

As far as cast Bullets go, my .308 like the NOE 30XCB Bullet. It’s cast from a 90/6/4 alloy and water dropped for a bhn of around 18 or so. I size these to .311” and lube them with Lar’s 2500+
I use Starline brass either IMR4831 or H414 for a mv of just over 2600fps. I’ve shot these out to 500 yards and would like to try for 1000

LOTS of Good info here Guy’s!! I’m peeking at Molds now, I have contemplated casting for my .308, and Possibly 7-08 as well. I wish NOE offered a Steel Mold, i am a DIEHARD Steel Mold Guy, i can do Aluminum, But i MUCH rather Buy Steel

I’m not sure if Tom at Accurate Molds offers a version of the 30xcb Bullet or not. I know if he did it would have a flat point on it.

For long range you're better off sticking with one of the ones I listed in that thread linked above. If Tom would integrate a pointing feature into his production system it would open up a lot of opportunities for us, but he's not gonna mess with it. In the meantime, the MP 30-180 Silhouette is pretty tough to beat. I personally am NOT a fan of the "XCB" bullet for several specific reasons that become apparent at top-end loading, but it holds 2 MOA way on out there pretty easily.

Tom actually cut the initial run of XCB bullet molds.
the nose shape wasn't acceptable so we had to go to AL to get that more spritzer type nose shape.
Tom's has a strong TC type nose but the flat point was too large for longer ranges.
it would be an outstanding 2-300 yd higher velocity hunting bullet though.
the arsenal mold is a slightly modified 165-A type which would have some slightly better down range ballistics and it is similar to the nose shape the original xcb mold has.

anyway.
you need velocity to make the longer range shots.
I put up plenty of data in the XCB thread to get you the speed, you just have to find the combination your rifle likes.
CFE-223 impressed me, but had it's definite wall and happy spots along the way.
others close to it would be RL-15, H-380, H-414, and 4064

just remember to read that thread carefully it has data for the 308 and for a slightly larger case size [the XCB case]

I have been digging and digging, researching. What about Lyman Mold 311332, it looks like a Good bullet? I shoot 165-168 Jacketed in this Gun, wouldn’t 180 be about Right with Cast? I am not Completely against an Aluminum Mold, But pretty Darn Close, I Don’t like Aluminum Molds at all, I avoid them like the Plague! I want Steel if there is any way i can get it? I just recently Had Tom @ Accurate Re-Cut Several of my Aluminum Molds in Steel, Trying to Phase the Aluminum out for GOOD

I am hoping to not have to use a Filler in the Case, I don’t like the idea of it? Is that Possible? If so, Which Powder will give me the Best Density? I use Varget Now

And Alloy, I was hoping to be able to Purchase the Alloy instead of Make it, I do a LOT of Business with Buffalo Arms, they are about 30 minutes from me. They carry up to Lyman #2 Which is 15 BHN, is that ok? Or do i need a Harder Bullet? Is there something i can easily ad to Lyman #2 to get what i need? I have a Cabin Tree Lead Hardness Tester

When I was testing 4831 and some other slower powders they were 90% to compressed if I remember right. I never used any filler with these.
