At the time I bought those "throwback" steel RCBS dies, the Redding two-diameter tools were not yet being marketed. "Coke-bottle" revolver ammo looked like Hessian, and the brass in both calibers had short lives due to longitudinal splits after 4-6 firings. Once the steel dies came into the picture, case life seems to be eternal.

With one chamber I just neck sized the Colts for a long time . When I added a chamber that made the Ruger look like a match chamber I had to pursue other means for FL sizeing to get the cases back in the BH . A gutted 45 ACP FCD did the trick there just enough to go in the BH and have enough tension to not move with just enough crimp to avoid set back in a lever tube . That sufficed until trades , swaps , and buys landed 2 steel sets and a loose steel sizer . I only have 4 sets of of Colts dies .........
