your not that far out.
I have never ever owned a 7-08, but have recommended them a lot, and shot a few.
but I know I have owned at least 10 plus 7x57 rifles over the years.

I bought a 7 wsm when they first come out so I could compare it to my 7 ICL and seen nothing other than the new rifle burned more powder to get to the same place in all but the very upper end.
that went down the road shortly and the only thing I missed was the money I laid out, the die set does make a very nice neck size and seat die for the ICL though.

Mommas rifle LOVES THESE 139's and
IMR4895!!
The 120Vmax & IMR 4064 was no slouch either!!
The IMR 4350/145g was entirely respectable. But looks far worse hovering @ 1".

Our local auction house had a Ruger 77 in 7x57mm that was up for auction last fall. I looked at it real hard but wasn’t ready to jump. I regret not bidding on it.

The used market is INSANE right now, prices are high, availability is low. So, I started looking at new rifles.

I was also quite interested in the 280AI. I know that everyone loves to hate what Nosler did to it. I might have bought one but for component availability(brass is expensive), tooling costs(need to buy new dies, older wildcat dies won’t work, because of how Nosler standardized the chamber), and increased recoil were all factors that focused my gaze onto the 7mm-08.

Pretty annoyed with OpticsPlanet, I just noticed in my Email they are giving a delivery date 4 to 6 months out on my 139gr Interlocks! No where in the order process was there a mention of a back order!!!
Well the hunt for components continues.

Well it comes to relatively inexpensive jacketed bullets that reliably kill deer with boring efficiency, I like Speer Hot Cor bullets. I shot several over the years with 130 grain Hot Cors at a reduced velocity of 2,500 fps in both the 7 mm and the .270. I dislike blown up venison. This loading expands nicely, exits, and is a sudden killer at the sub 100 yard ranges I experience in my woods.

They have been pulling that crap for months now. I completely sworn off them.

The good news! I was able to inspect my new rifle this evening.

The bad news! The computer background system was down. So what should have been a same day purchase, has turned into a “come back tomorrow and maybe it will work” situation.

They did however have six boxes of 7mm-08 on the shelf. I grabbed my 2 per day limit.

I have converted 50 pieces of .308.

And bullets have begun to arrive in the mail.

I have an old orphaned 1/2 pound of 4831 that I’m gonna use to fire form the converted brass with.

I might just get a chance to shoot it this weekend!

Right now I don’t have a .308 in my quiver. So I’m not worried about a mix up in my guns.

I do shoot/hunt with someone who owns a .308. I don’t tumble my brass, so the tarnished/annealed nature of my brass should be off putting enough to avoid a mix up.

My only caliber formed from another case is my 7x30 Waters. There isn't much chance of mistaking a 30-30 for the Waters. I would much prefer matching headstamps.

I trend to Lake City Brass for my reforming.
1) Its good quality Brass

2) No caliber designation

3) After close call's with life, I now think of what those after me will have to deal with thats 100% my doing.

Thoughts of those who may shoot my handloads, after I'm gone, is the reason all my handloads are correctly headstamped.

Hope the system is up, and you're able to send some downrange...

Don't own a 7-08, but interested to hear your experience with it. The 20" BBL should be great over here in the PNW.

Cheers !!!

I've made 7-08 from 308, works well. Only real downside for me was preferring the correct headstamp.

Drop the case in a case gauge and stamp over the "3" with a small "7" stamp. I did 100 .30-30 converted to 7-30 Waters that way in about ten minutes while drinking coffee.

Now I just have to find a 32 Rem case gauge ......
It and the 264 WM are the only mismatches that could be even remotely messed up .

The 358 is all but a straight case , even if I had a 338 FC I don't think you could get it chambered .

So I need a 1/16" #3 & #5 to fix that .

I guess you're forcing me to get after the 7×57 Savage .
