Make one. Cut off an old screwdriver shank for the material, grind or file the outside of the 7, and use a triangle file to do the inside. Heat the tip dull red and oil quench if it doesn't hold up.

Well I’m pretty happy with my new acquisition. I’ve had two range sessions out at the gravel pit. Here are a few of the better groups that I’ve shot.

60 yards, four shot, 3/4”, standing using the hood of the Suburban as a bench. This group and the four sighters were the first eight shots ever out of this rifle. (Disregard the holes on the right, sloppy offhand work.)

120 yard, 5 shot group, 1 3/8”, prone off of a bag, w/o sling.

180 yards, shot from prone w/bag, & w/ sling. I thought I had a problem with the rifle, I figured that the plastic stock was touching/pushing on the barrel. Nope, just me using that sling aggressively. I like how it steadies my sight picture. I don’t like how much it changes my point of impact.

Now, I need to get to casting some with the Lee 130gr two cavity.

I’ve rewritten this post three times now. It’s 108°F. I’m having a hard time thinking.

I’m gonna shoot it a few more time and see if I can reliably move the point of impact to the same spot when using the sling. If I can’t figure out how to reliably dope it, then…

A Boyd’s laminated stock will be my next move.

JB Weld and a small block Chevy pushrod filling the forend will help a lot. Just inlet it back to the recoil lug.

I like this arrangement. You make a sling of the correct length for your arm. Make two friction locks from a garden hose. Very quick and easy to use. It effectively fixes your elbow joint, but place no strain on the stock. I always bring this for my hunts.E8007C63-D31F-4472-BD38-5A74C35CD2F6.jpegA8EE2BD6-1A1E-4D34-9D3D-E7F9D9F4C57C.jpeg

Thats how I "fixed" mine.

This is my Pillar Bed Video. But you see the stock better. I recomend this. Boyds can do for you fairly economically.

Put your lathe to work if you get a Boyd's stock. I can give you some tips on a correct, two-step, stress-free pillar bedding job on the Savage action. Almost everyone does it wrong and the proof is easily obtained with a screwdriver and dial indicator
