8.15x46R

Always been interested in the cartridge, seems very similar to .32-40.

I'l always really liked the stalking rifle concept as well, and a Savage 219 comes pretty close.

Nothing against beautiful rifles, but I sorta like the conservative "country-cousin" aesthetic myself. Neat rifles.

A Savage 219 is a very graceful rifle in the hands. One could do much worse for a woods deer rifle.

I agree and don't mean to insult the looks of the 219, as I feel the "plainness" has its own elegance - unadorned, natural beauty, sleek, svelte and handy. Had I run across such a thing before messing with H&Rs and eventually the Contender, I'd probably be using one myself.

I hunted with a 219 last year in 30-30. Was a fine rifle. This is not a big change. A shorter Barrel and better triggers. Not a big difference in the two. Much hander. Shorter Barrels and 5 pounds weight.

An update on the Stalking Rifle.
I have all my brass cut and ready to load.
It was really hard to cut down 32-40 brass. It is hard to find.
I have 3 cast bullets to try. An Old Ideal mold. A Saeco 8mm Mold that is under size and a old Winchester 32 Special mold. We will see how the gun shoots and how close the fixed sights are. This sure is fun getting all this to work!
More updates soon.

i don't even have a 32-40 and i'd have an internal struggle cutting it down.
probably jack some 30-30 brass around though.

30-30 Will work. But the rims are to thick. You have to thin them down. The action will not close. The 32-40 works fine after its cut down to the correct length.
So the easy way is use the 32-40 brass.

Well I had 3 molds to try a Seco 91 a Winchester 32 spl mold and the ideal 319 mold Jeff sent me.
The ideal was a winner. The problem I had wad the gun shoots high.8-10 inches high.
So I was shooting between targets. I will get a taller front sight and try again. the front sight profile is A the point of this A about as tall. the rear sights a fixed also.
More coming
