8MM Mauser

I never shot cast out of the 8mm rifles I had. But i had Shaw build me one in 8mm. It was one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned. It would routinely shoot 5 rds into a 0.200" group at 200yds! I sold it to fund a GAP 308win. This actually shot better than the GAP $4000 rifle.

Why in the name of all things Holy would anyone sell a rifle that would routinely shoot .200" 5 shot groups at 200 yards? Does anyone even make bench rest match grade bullets in 8 m/m?

Tomme, I also had a BRNO K98 that I had Shaw rebarrel with the Magnum Sporter weight 8x57 barrel.
After putting 5 Hornady 125 gr SP into less than an inch, I carried it along to Muleshoe and slaughtered prairie dogs with it alongside my 22-250.
That 125 @ 3000 + fps “divided” them out to 300 yards with extreme prejudice…..
Later that year I got a nice Muley at 200 yards with a 175 gr Sierra bullet.
The 8x57 is a great cartridge.

There used ta be at least a Hornady match offering!! Not sure anylonger. 8mm would make a nice heavyweight. Id venture with proper barrel and bullets it could be a serious long range contender!

Im going ta range today to test my 170g SST loads. Ill be able to repeat same with 180 Noslers now too!!! Im excited for the 8mm again!!

Thank you Grandpa!! ❤️

200gr Sierra HPBT Match were what it liked. https://www.sierrabullets.com/product/8mm-200-gr-hpbt-matchking/

And at the time I wanted a custom Rem 700 type rifle and this was one that I did not shoot as much as I wanted. Heck at the same time I sold my Ranger Bass boat to make my own wood boat to fish out of. I also sold my 1500 Suzuki Intruder to get a moped to ride. I was down scaling everything at the time as I not in good health and was not supposed to be here anymore.

When your mortality is questioned you do strange things. I will just leave it at that.

i am the opposite. when i had my stroke, i bought old rifles to make "new" again. i got rid of "plastic" stocked rifles tho.
